One of the snowiest winters I can remember. Stoke, and especially south Stoke, sure stuck lucky. I lost count of the number of snow events, many of them pretty significant. Stoke does though seem to do far better than the vast majority of the country most winters, despite Stokie’s telling me it doesn’t snow here much 😅

Stoke did great for thunderstorms last summer, so here’s hoping for summer 2021 ⛈ 🤞

It’s like Narnia to me 😅 I’ve seen more snow this year than in the 30 years I lived in London, Hertfordshire and Kent. Apart from maybe November/December 2010 when Kent got absolutely hammered.

Stoke really is Arctic compared to London. I love it! I remember many winters in London where I didn’t see a single frost never mind a flake of snow!

Stoke elevation advantage over Stafford, here is 104m, but a lot of areas higher, Cannock. Walsall/Pelsall, even going SW to Telford

Can see how Stoke-on-Trent historically is one of the snowiest places in England and one of the snowiest non-mountain areas of the U.K., although it is at a higher elevation than a lot of England. I find it strange that Stokie’s think it doesn’t snow here much!

A few of the high resolution models show a decent snow risk up here this weekend. Euro4, for example:

Much of Stoke is circa 150m asl at least. You’d expect it to cop it a fair bit at that elevation. Most urban areas in the UK are under 100m and many of them around 50m.

Yes. Like I said, Stoke is higher up than the vast majority of the country and gets more snow than most of the country but Stokie’s tell me it doesn’t snow here much.

Interesting development of almost stationary showers this morning across the North West Midlands into parts of Lancashire and South Yorkshire.

Not yet produced anything here but appears to have given a covering of snow in some places ❄️

With Stoke on the eastern edge.

Seems to be behaving as thunderstorms often do here. Forming overhead and only very, very slowly moving. Something to do with the hilly landscape, maybe. Certainly makes for an interesting climate around here.

Yeah. That was amazing. I was in the middle of each storm. 3 sleepless nights in a row. Amazing lightning display! Saw some great mammatus and shelf clouds too.

Looks like they’re ganging up on me.

Tonight could be interesting. Sleeting at the moment.
