Aye, agree with that! my favourite setup is Atlantic lows, similar to 24th Jan this year, not a crappy kitten from the East

Here the more ‘marginal’ setups with less deeply cold airmasses are certainly better for snow. Stoke always does well in those setups.

Very different living in the south east. Marginal events bring nothing but easterlies can be pretty special. Some of my friends in the South East are having a great event. Their first snow in several years.

Can understand why people in the south east get excited about easterlies but the Midlands less so.

I suppose we've been a bit spoiled by the easterly that *did* deliver even for us, in 2018. It'll take a few less impressive easterlies for that to fade I suspect. In the same way, people were referring to "feels a bit like 2010" for several years after that December.

Just noticed more showers across the North Midlands. Thought they’d have all died back to the coast.

Nothing heavy. Maybe just a fresh dusting for some.

I find sub zero temperatures with no wind to be far more pleasant than single figures with wind and rain.

Not sure that would be the case in -20’C!

Tbf Matt, never forget going Toronto Canada on a work trip years before I became a Cabbie. It was the end of Feb and their local radio gave the Weather out at -10c during the day. Anyway we went out for a meal that night, and me being a bit of a numpty went on the trip without a coat. No word of a lie, it actually felt more pleasant that night than the Weather you get with Easterlies. The only thing you tend to notice is the cold wind with an Easterly.

So onto this Weekend. A snow event then cold that night with a Freeze. An horrible Snow to rain event that just gives you a slight taste of what might of been. Or a no front, straight to mild Weekend?

Looking more and more likely that the first front won’t push east enough and then the second one will just bring rain. Typical!

That's just by Broad Green! Used to live in Elm Street, round the corner. Nice snow. Wish we had some down here!

I got up at 6am to make the Missus her lunch for work (shes a decade younger than me and has yet to join me in retirement) and it was a mighty -11°C outside the kitchen window.  Now the sun is peeping over the horizon I can see a very heavy frost.

I'll  soon have my weather station so will be able to better monitor overnight temps.

Working in this weather is a killer, I love the snow but sometimes I think...if only it was summer

Not as low as might have been overnight.

Dropped to -5.8C,and it has now risen to -2.1C at 10:00.

Looks like a lovely day for a walk.

Beautiful but bitter dog walk this morning.

If the mild air is going to bring dry weather with it, then I can get excited about that. It comes with getting older.

Always felt this winter that we’ve been verging on something epic and on a massive disappointing near miss both at the same time.

In the end, we got away with a fairly decent run with both lucky and brilliant moments alongside fairly underwhelming moments.

Will I remember winter 2020/2021 in the years to come? I really don’t know, I suppose it depends on what the next few are like.

But yeah, pretty decent overall. ??
