As I'm pretty new to all this Weather lark, can someone tell me what FI means in the model thread.

Fantasy Island,  not real.

Split on either side of me.   Got a few tiny (re. millimeter) flakes drifting in the wind glinting with sunlight, looks pretty at least.

Looking at the model output, it looks like we might see a brief warm up.

Very positive Met Office update today though. Only mention of mild is in the far west at times.

All out now and looks OK, certainly for our region.  Looking forward to next output now.

More coming in. Looks like a mini stream of showers.

Crossing my fingers that Leek won't 'eat' it up.

Overnight looks decent from a few models   a few cm    with a line of showers dropping across our region.

Yup watched the met office forecast earlier and still looked good for snow showers to feed in across our region tonight and tomorrow!

Snow lightly here. Not heavy enough to settle at the moment.

It's obviously cold out when icicles appear

There's still some snow in the garden even if it's mostly on the path. The lawn next door has snow on it still though. So at least it looks fairly wintry out there if not a full on winter wonderland.

Same, just a sparse falling of small non-sticking flakes drifting in the gentle breeze.  Least it's not Graupel.

Well, we had our first heavy shower of the day within the last half hour or so and despite it trying to settle, the ground temps are plus 3.2c and it quickly melted.

Air temp is plus 0.2c

Dew point is - 3.2c

Plenty more chances to come this winter though.

Showers on my walk were cool, snow and a lot of soft hail, settled in a few spots, especially on icy puddles from floods

I can hear the hills gobbling it up.

Typical. Yesterday all the weak, infrequent showers made it over unscathed. Today we finally get a stream of frequent, heavy showers and the Peak District destroys them.

*Shakes fist at sky*.

Interesting how the showers north of Birmingham seem to be having far fewer issues sustaining strength as they cross the country, compared to the ones south that are dying out east of Brum? Anyone know what the scientific reason for this?

I too had noticed this. The Yorkshire thread are reporting the showers beefing up inland.

The north of our region are also looking as though they may turn a bit heavier.

Whereas in the Central and southern band they have now died out.

I have also observed that here a thin veil of cirrus has moved across from the east here turning the blue skies a milky colour, and the shower cumulus have disappeared.  Also that the showers are now dieing out before reaching Leicester and are now non existent from Coventry westwards.

What is happening?...

I have also observed that the showers around the North of E Anglia and the Wash are intensifying with  higher tops, according to the NW Radar..

I am wondering whether these higher tops are injecting more moisture to a higher level.

This may be good news for us in the central Midlands if the showers over the Wash can mange to move westwards as they may be showing more convection. OR it could be the veil will hold and dampen down all activity.

The MO now are forecasting that the winds will back to the NE tomorrow, and are suggesting that there will be more cloud, and only a few showers. Be interested to see what happens if the showers do start to beef up in the NE.

MIA

Chucking it down. Yes! ☃️

Lucky you, stopped here now, just a sugar sifter coating of graupel on cars and paving slabs, but skies clearing out now, so it'll prob be gone in 5-10 mins

Damn. Central/North Stoke is so unlucky. Still coming down nicely here, with big flakes, and shaded areas are still covered in yesterday’s snow.
