Despite frequent showers, the snow is melting faster than it is settling.

Snow showers lining up with me for the first time in as long as I can remember not delivering much though. I still have a scarce centimetre.

Morning all,

And that’s carrying on through just to the south of me, let’s hope a little more energy off the the North Sea will give it more oomph and expand

Even though some of the heavier showers are passing by to the South towards Coventry sort of way, some of those ones further behind to the East of Leicester may take a slightly more Northerly track and get here. Still quite early in the day and I think anything could happen really. Perhaps the fact it’s daytime may mean that the sun (albeit still quite weak at this time of year) helps provide some energy to continue carrying these wintry showers quite far West through the Western Midlands at times. And hopefully some of these streamers and scattered areas of snow showers will start affecting those in here who have not seen many showers, if any at all. Few days of chances anyway

Expecting the convergence to give a bit more umph later on hopefully!

Looks like the showers are getting heavier to me.

Not exactly Narnia out there but doing better than I’d feared. Another fun winter day!

Temp -1 here!!!!no sun!!!!but snow melting!

its odd, the showers are steaming through as well. Just had an intense downpour then slows down again. Partially settles in places.

I think it is still early days, the streamers of the North sea just keep coming.  Not seeing any of this as a downgrade...yet!

Plus the short range models do have this down at all. Weather apps are going to be way off too.

At the moment there is another streamer heading right this way via Leics-toh!

Melting because ground temps are not cold enough.

Wind chill is fine but unless you have precipitation that’s heavy and prolonged it’s pointless at the moment.

Why is it melting?

It's not cold enough, temps above freezing now. +0.7C here, slow rise all morning. It may well be a long term event, but not especially severe.

Well I am going to say what most of you are thinking, what a let down from a near at times gale force NE/E wind!. After all the promise of the precipitation gathering last evening for the vast majority is been pretty rank. Bring on spring if this is all we can get from these synopitics now. Yeah it might change later but the radar looks no better so maybe prematurely this is a bust for Hinckely.

It's more like Jan 3-6 this year, Easterlies need to be true beasts or there is day time thawing, at least low levels

Frequent heavy bursts, but then stops after a few mins here.

Very slow accumulation but still nice to see

Pathetic accumulation despite the showers, but looks like they've moved northwards approaching Coventry so not expecting anything else for now. Certainly not a repeat of 2018, but at least some of the East Midlands is getting some much deserved snow!

Yeah. I’m enjoying it, but that might be because I feared I’d see nothing at all.

I’ve ran through the latest high resolution models and it does look like the the most significant accumulations for some places should be from this evening into tomorrow morning as the showers keep on coming. Further showers through Tuesday into Wednesday but becoming less frequent.

Just to note that in the last 30mins the streamer is starting to expand and that area off the NorthEast coast is a lot bigger, food for thought that’s all

A lot sun breaking through now, so whoever quoted 25cm falling yesterday via a certain news channel, may well be a little disappointed.

That ties in with Met Office showing 80% chance of heavy snow in Notts between 2-4pm. Looks a wider area can get in the game this afternoon/evening
