From FB 'High Peak Live' this afternoon..

Two in a Mitsubishi travelled over 140 miles from Luton and was stopped on the A537 Cat and fiddle today. The two car occupants said “They were travelling to take photos of the snow.”

Yup! I read that too, believe they didn't have a licence either?  Or maybe a different one

Yep it's the second one in the area today to be found without a license or insurance, and travelling over the Cat & Fiddle when it was supposed to have been closed temporarily. Given what happened to the Patterdale MRT member last night with those 2 folks who travelled up to the Lakes it's hard to believe we're still in a global pandemic.

Mustn’t have been members of the SE regional thread or they’d have just waited for the biblical snow storm down there.

Looks like tomorrow will be the high point in this Easterly for us out west.  Yes some places - probably the majority - will still only get light flurries in the air, but with any luck some decent showers will setup on a few lucky spots.  It will feel bitter in the winds.  I expect the hilly areas facing east in the High Peaks and Southern Pennines will be primed for decent accumulations.

Met office has been bang on with regards to my location so far. Hopefully they continue to be right as they have me down for showers making it across all day tomorrow.

Have they declared a 'state of emergency' yet?

...meanwhile in Scotland...just run-of-the-mill

No major convection as yet, if it is to get going it will do overnight and through tomorrow. There is a skittering of snow pellets on the roofs of cars here.

Will be tentatively opening the curtains in the morning, I'll expect a grey scene so not to be disappointed.

Still sat on 0.7 degrees, must be the wind preventing sub-freezing conditions, alas, it is a very dry cold, so visible frost will not be on the cards. Remember we had many such nights in Feb 2012.

Boris is just chairing the COBR meeting now.

appeal going out for tins of white paint so any grass showing through can be covered up before the TV cameras turn up.

Unfortunately I expect these will keep fizzling out over the Pennines. This week’s going to be a cold and dry affair. Anything more than 10 minutes of graupel will need a westerly regime.

Any reason for thinking this?

The light snow that is falling here is sticking as its -0.3c and if it carries on like this we might have an inch by Easter

You asked for my thoughts yesterday - convective easterly snow showers do usually make it over the Pennines to affect Manchester.  They sometimes die further west.

According to a fair few models (but not all), Manchester will get snow showers tonight and tomorrow.

It's drifting North and looks like a line joining up/forming from Lincolnshire to Liverpool area.
