You’ve got to hand it to whoever does the weather warnings on the Meto maps.

their geography skills are pretty good in the way they manage to know exactly where to avoid the North West from every direction

still big flakes of heavy but not settling snow here

Both Liverpool and Manchester Airport TAFs indicate possibility of snow between 18:00 and 21:00 and then risk of light snow showers showing for Manchester Airport throughout the night into tomorrow morning.

I'm trying to work out where the ppn associated with tonight's warning is coming from, not that I'm expecting anything here as we're just outside the warning zone. I thought it would be associated with the current band of ppn sinking South and regional forecasts for ours and surrounding regions indicate this to be the case, but the warning indicates this is associated with more coming in from the East tonight?

Bit surprised as another nice morning here in South Cheshire, at least at the moment.

It is likely to turn wet during this afternoon as the band of ppn sinks South. Not sure whether the warning is associated with this band or further ppn coming in from the East.

I think the snow risk for this evening is the back edge of this band and possible showers behind it. Just about to look at 06Z WRF to see if it’s any better for low ground.

Snow event Friday morning followed by brutal cold with -7C down to 500 m and below freezing for 6 days from Thursday to Monday. Little precipitation because pressure is over 1050 mb but incredibly cold and I’m sure there would be more chances of snow in the following week.

Matt Hugo has snow at 900 feet, 0.8°C. He is somewhere around Bacup isn’t he?

5.6°C here and dry.

Radar has Pinks cropping up over what looks like the tops.

Saying that though  -  the Radar was on the inaccurate side last week to say the least.

Absolutely vile out there on my walk. Heavy rain most of the lower level route, with sleet as you climb elevation a tad.

Hopefully we can get the clear cold air sooner or later, as this 'here's what you could have had weather' is the second worst behind summer heat.

He’s somewhere in the Rossendale area and the snow is stating to stick at lower levels now, certainly turning white here so probably getting a decent covering on the tops now.

@iand61

actually for your location according to GFS and WRF 06Z it will be below freezing from tomorrow morning for at least 9 days.

I hope you are prepared; could be quite a cold spell for you.

Proper coming down hard now but although it’s sticking, it’s making hard work of it.

Yeah I’ve got my long johns ready and picked up a couple more bags of grit earlier in the week.

I’m sure the long johns will get a run out but not convinced I’ll be opening any new bags of grit unless today’s fall freezes

WRF 06Z still not really that interested in snow for low ground later; perhaps just about conducive for my location but not for anywhere further west. However if I look for Bacup at the current time it would suggest that it wouldn’t be conducive there either. It is however so perhaps we should just nowcast from now on.

The beauty of this incoming setup is that anything that falls should hang around on the ground for a while and even light snow showers should settle and accumulate.
