Coolish cloudy start but it’s turned into another lovely day to be out and about.

just a shame that things look to be heading a bit downhill again after today but aside from the almost daily frosts, it’s been another decent start to spring.

Decent walk this morning, grass cut and a 4-0 win for the clarets, must be time to crack open an can or two and enjoy the sunshine.

Loving the drought.  14 dry days on the trot so far.

Swallows arrived today.  A bit later than usual.  Called in to check nest sites but I think they'll be busy feeding up for a week or two before starting nesting.  In any case there's no mud about at present to build or patch up nests

This week coming up not looking good. Winds sourced from around the top of northern Scandinavia & temps struggling to make double digits. And apart from some light rain forecast for Tuesday any noteworthy precipitation still looking scarce.

The inevitable has happened this evening with the first major moorland-fire of the season with 6 blazes across a 5-mile radius of Marsden Moor. Some 15 Fire appliances, police, MRT teams, drones, and helicopter all in attendance. Similar to the Saddleworth fire of 2018 the smoke-plume can be seen across most of Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, and the Peak District.

Here's how it was looking at 8pm from where I am some 15 miles south of it.

Yes as already mentioned, tis a frosty start this morning.  Heartbreaking scenes of the Marsden Moor fire on the news this morning, mind numbingly  senseless if irresponsible people are found to be the cause, so sad, so totally thoughtless.

Just been mentioned on TV that showers could turn  wintry during the week what a depressing thought frosty start but now clear blue skies looks like the last nice day for the foreseeable

A case of hedging the bets re tomorrow in the NW (BBC Forecast for the Week Ahead). Some places could catch a heavy shower or two, which will no doubt be welcome in many parts of the Region, others may stay dry but cooler as the cold front moves away south. No such issues today, but more cloud here than on previous mornings, and bright rather than sunny.

Back to pre pandemic situation with many expanded contrails cutting out the blue sky and reducing bright sunlight.  Must be damper air aloft or they might have been evaporated and been less of a nuisance.  Othewise another grand day in prospect.

Well at least there's a chance of some rain tomorrow, for the last god knows how many days we've not had the slightest possibility of the clouds delivering their moisture.  Although I'm hesitant to desire any rain because I know once those wheels get set in motion it could end up in a summer washout with flooding making the news instead of heatwaves.  Anyway the tinder dry moors do need a break.

It's been just as dry as last Spring but we've swapped the warm air for a cooler one this time round. Outlook looking poor for at least early May if warmth is your thing. Some rain possible tonight into tomorrow and further ahead who knows but the GFS wants to give us a deep low for the time of year.

Had a nice day at my brothers in Kendal, nice enough to sit out early afternoon.

Here’s his neighbour

A transitional day, stayed dry until late afternoon, but clouded over quickly through the morning, and cooler in feel than recent days, with little sunshine. Few spits and spots of rain in the last hour or two, only just dampened the ground. Tomorrow will be a hit and miss affair, some places could see a few heavy long lasting showers which will do the gardens good, others might escape completely dry. However, all will feel chilly with a cold N/NE flow, and this sets the scene for the rest of the week. Significantly colder than the late April average, and more frost!

Morning all.

Shed nearly repaired. Forecast could give it a good testing.

Some inocuous clouds visible but also blue sky too. A good recipe for showers.

20 drops of rain on the doorstep at 5.30pm broke the drought.

You counted 'em, right? I have 0.05 drops/cm2 on my car windscreen.

Compared to the last 2 weeks of frost it's been relatively warm overnight at 6'c minimum, MWIS forecast for today is interesting alongside the Netwx-SR signaling a few heavy 'thundery showers' from 3pm up to 9pm this afternoon.

Picked up 7.5 mm at 10BST.  Nature stirring at last in the damp.  Birds have come alive and singing lustily.
