Remember that well. Was watching breakfast TV and it was chucking it down in Liverpool. An hour later total whiteout in Manchester

I am obviously very new here and you are all a lovely bunch but this is a million miles away from what will happen - the breakdown over the latter part of the weekend will consist of rain and sleet away from the hills as warm air will be preceding the front ... this has been lucked up by many models over the last 24 hours.

Can't remember the last time we had such an event, oh yes I do 25 years ago, 5/6 Feb!

To be fair that would be the upper end of expectations, I'd settle with 10cm to match the last big event this winter after the let down of this Easterly.

@Dextercheck the radar a wider area of snow stretching back to Doncaster heading this way.

So far this cold spell has given me about 2mm of snow. Hoping it goes out with a bang rather than whimper on the snow front.

Chance we may catch a few beefy showers through early hours with a change to a NE flow.

Some of those showers are really expanding and joining up!

Snow shower here everything covered again. Radar looking good for Oldham area. But when you look to NE England see how beefy those showers are compared to the ones heading into Yorkshire.....there's no competition! Them ones were the kind of intensity that we had in 2018. Anyway off to bed hopefully more fun and games tomorrow....more fun I hope than games.

00z GFS still looking excellent for a Saturday all dayer. More of a sleety mix Sunday.

Nowt fallen overnight here and a pretty uninspiring forecast for today so all eyes west for Saturdays front and how it can miraculously fail to delivery for our region.

role on some spring warmth.

GFS 0Z is a slight upgrade imo with potentially 48 hours of heavy snow possibly turning to ice pellets on immediate  coast. Cold Continental air returns at the surface later in the run.

I’ll believe it when I actually see snow falling and the forecasts show no precipitation for us over the weekend but I’ll get the potential shovel ready just in case

Met office text forecast

Becoming wet and windy Sunday with further snow and coastal gales possible.

When you look at met office symbols for Sunday, nothing, not until Monday night do I get a precipitation symbol. Even as far as west as Crosby is the same
