Due to the way the block evolves, frontal snow risk as milder air moves in looks less likely at the moment. 

 

Winds switch to a southerly direction allowing milder air to push northwards long before any frontal systems are able to push into the UK. Remaining cold into the wkend.

East looks interesting for further showers. 

Seem to be getting more snow and bigger flakes today

Despite it being below freezing, the snow that fell is now melting rapidly in the strengthening February sunshine. Not much cloud about today to stop it either. Can't even hang onto a dusting in one of the coldest easterlies for years.

You must have a different sun there, not much strength in it here yet. in a couple of weeks maybe. Zero melt here.

This might give some hope from the mod thread.. Couldn't fit the chart on.. But who can decipher that squiggly mess anyway.. But I do ow that anomaly charts are more reliable.

Its going to be interesting, the UKMO is having non of it, but, have the models got a grip on whats going on.

The issue is those charts lag the operational and ensembles

I think its the undersoil heating at Old Trafford. Probably whacked it up.

Looks to be the case.

 

At the same time as the shower over Manchester developed, I was just watching a shower dying into Ripon and then redevelop out of it.

On our 4th of 5th shower of the day but the problem remains the intensity. At no point does the light ever darken. In fact it's snowing moderately at the moment with the sun bright in the sky. It's never going to be particularly heavy in that case.

That's what we keep getting

 

As I'm typing this; the skies have gone black, it snows and then it's followed by brilliant sunshine; it's disappearing faster than it's landing

GFS 06Z shows an impressive event over the weekend for Merseyside with 12 hours of heavy snow Saturday afternoon  turning to ice pellets then back to snow again into Sunday afternoon. Freezing rain rather than ice pellets on the highest ground.

Just looking at that, Driving down to Derby this weekend and it nearly all high level at 1300-1400ft.

But some say it wont happen - the SW air pushing up is on the a bit too mild side.

For us on the western lowlands it's our only shot out of this Snizzfest
