First properly chilly day of the Autumn really.

Max of 9.1C in the last hour but now slowly dropping, had a minimum of 1.7C and this was the coldest so far this Autumn but still waiting for an air frost..... we've certainly had a few ground frosts up to now though. I think the ground temp this morning must have been a few degrees below 0 with this Arctic airmass.

There was ice on the water that pooled in the top of the trailer this morning. Yep, very chilly but a nice crisp day.

Lovely day thanks to polar air. Clear skies excellent visibility lots of sunshine and a chill in the air. More of this please.. alas we are heading straight back to the dank murky fest of early in the week from Saturday onwards.

Another decent day in prospect, maybe one or two showers, but plenty of sunshine and a nice cold feel to things again in the polar air. All downhill later tomorrow as the damp mild weather returns.

Hopefully we can squeeze something half decent out of Saturday but as you say, it’s looking downhill as we go through the weekend.

Good day yesterday.

Refreshing PM airflow - blue sky - best time of the year up to and beyond Samhain.

Rain Streamers incoming from a NW flow on Radar  - few months time we would be in business.

(....or maybe not!)

I think my earlier expectation in terms of sunshine may have been wrong. A steady stream of prolonged showers for the past hour or two and more to come by the looks of it.

Can’t speak for the rest of the region but we certainly drew the short straw with the shower streamers this morning.

they cleared off around lunchtime and it’s been a lot brighter since but as others have said, a few months later and we’d have probably been in snow business by now.

Light to moderate showers on and off today and a chilly feel. Nothing particularly cold on the horizon but can't expect it in early November. Practically all of the classic winters didn't start until late in the month and some after Xmas. We got time on our hands

Trust me it’s coming, the worst winter in a gazillion years just in time to kick the population while they are stuck in the middle of lockdown 3+ in houses they can’t afford to heat.

Came across the Pennines at lunchtime from N Yorkshire and what a difference. Lovely crisp morning on the NY coast, prolonged showers of rain from the Saddleworth turn off the M62. Bit surprised in view of the forecast and even more surprised that the showers continued after I got back to S Cheshire. One good aspect was a wonderful double rainbow just before it got dark. I wish I had photographed it!

Very little sunshine in the end today and a continual conveyor belt of showers feeding in from the Irish Sea. Winds still gusty as well and a chilly day out, that's for sure.  Two months down the line and we may have scraped a cm or 2 of snow on the ground in this setup.

Not a bad start to the day, dry with a bit of sunshine trying to poke through the cloud and certainly an improvement on yesterday’s showers from first light.

Tomorrow’s forecast is increasing looking better so hopefully a pretty usable weekend coming up.

Pleasant enough this am doing mums shopping, clear skies at sunrise but the odd pocket of blue sky is now filling in with grey murk.  9°C and dry, good day for outside tasks at the mo.

Yes, a better start to things today, mostly cloudy, but occasional glimpses of sun, and more importantly dry, so a decent day for outdoor activities.

Just come back from a couple of hours walk and for much of the time there was a light drizzle or at least damp in the air and precious little brightness.

It’s probably just a living in the hills thing but a bit disappointing after a bright start.

Back to the grey darkness of earlier in the week.. intermittent drizzle and low cloud and never feeling particularly mild under a strong breeze. Out on the fells and it was preety miserable..  typical late October fayre.. history shows this time of year is usually unsettled and mild in the Lake District. Still waiting for those first crisp fine days of the season. Hopefully will arrive in the first half of November.. can't wait for the first lingering frost and walking on hard not squelch ground!

Stunning dark pink sky at sunrise.  By the time I got my phone, fannied about with a few settings to capture the true colour, the sun had rose a little more turning everywhere bright orange.  Couple of brief spits of showers since 7am and 9°C.

Interesting pattern here from about Bonfire Night onward, Probably disappear later, but the first interesting development into November.

So the silly season begins.

BIG caveat, well into FI and just an observation.
