Gotta say, every time in last few years we had a warm sunny September, it was followed by lots of snow in winter. 2009/10 11/12 were the last 2 i remember

Slight bit of a lull after a morning of moderate sporadic rain.  Appears central/southern England is getting the heavy stuff, but it's not exactly sunbathing weather here.  Looks like more rain to come this afternoon/early evening.

Yep, rain is steady and continuous here ☹️

Not a nice day no higher than 10C with pretty much steady light to moderate rain. Time to put the shorts away soon, not surprisingly I was the only one wearing them in Oldham town centre earlier. I think my blubber helps me feel warm

After today no chance of driest October on record. Indeed we've had about the same amount of rain in the last 6 days as we've had in the last 6 weeks if not more!

Awful day again, but to be fair in autumn this happens.

The heating went on last night, at least I got through September.

Beautiful autumn morning, quite a contrast with yesterday!

Not from anywhere near this side of the country! however, I can see just about the very tops of the CB’s near Liverpool from all the way across the fens from near Ely, Cambs! It must be them!!

Very lucky to lie between two streamers to the North and South of my locality this morning, but here is a steady west to east movement so I suppose I'll catch a shower before too long.

Tomorrow showery, Tuesday wet...a settling down from midweek.  Silly season starting to show Day after Tomorrow big freezes at Day plus 14.

Beautiful sunshine and blue skies all round this morning.  Now grey skies and drizzle, local weather station at 11°C.  The fair came to Macc on friday, much smaller than usual, but we have a local saying, " It always rains when the fair's in."   Probably not the case every time, but it must happen more often than not.  Can't remember the last time I had a walk round the fair.

12c blue skies and sunshine ☀️ after the showers… hoping this coming week after Tuesday will be settled warmer and sunny… this past week has seen enough rain to fill the water butts and by the look of it helped top up reservoirs a bit too…

Today hasn't turned out too bad, one or two short lived heavy showers but plenty of sunny spells in between the showers this afternoon. A contrast to the overcast day yesterday.

I headed across the Pennines to North Yorkshire this afternoon and the journey on the western side of the Pennines and on top was peppered with heavy but short-lived showers. At several points, the surfaces of the M6 and M62 were running wet one minute, bone dry the next, such was the nature of the showers, with lots of rainbows visible.

Crystal clear skies 6am and dry.  Looks like showers moving in later.  Local weather station temp. 8°C but feels like 6°C.  Time to switch to a thicker coat now for walking to work, soon be kicking through mounds of brown leaves.

Ended up thrashing it down with hail and there were quite a few cracks of thunder. Decent for October.

3 flashes of lightning seen here, third one a pinky orange cc.  4 decent cracks of thunder.  All passed out SE Leek way and beyond.  Torrential rain with it.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
