A few planes have been holding over me and taking a different approach to Manchester

Feel cheated

I wasnt expecting it either as it came South, veered to the SE then bounced off the Pennines.

Nowt here but I hope I’m as “unlucky” with tomorrow’s deluge as well.

to me it’s the same type of southerly tracking system that, if it was December to March would have our friends in the south taking over the mad thread and which would find a northern limit around the far south of our region leaving ourselves bone dry and bright.

oh for a warm repeat of one of those.

There are 4 separate downpours around Manchester so take your pick which anvil belongs to which cell.

Manchester cell showing up as a decent anvil in the sky to my NE. Looks like the lightning activity has died now though?

Seems to have transferred electrically to Shropshire.  Also a rogue strike in  N Wales.

Even though we haven't had any thunderstorms directly overhead I've seen some amazing cloudscapes today.

The thermometer we have on the wall that's always in the sun and is part of a little metal ornimental spade read 42c today, I wonder if there's a way to calculate the thermal conductivity of the metal and subtract that from the reading to get the actual temperature, highest I've ever seen it is 48c so not record breaking heat today at least. Saw some nice cloud plumes starting to form to the East when I was out on the bike earlier too

A nice drenching from this.

That will save me watering the garden tomorrow. Glad to have it, the weekend looks rather dry here now, though we are off to Bedfordshire Saturday so should get a dose of that.

Temp has dropped to a mere 21C!

I was lying on the beach (Newquay, Wales) in 1980, when I thought there was a shark attack: shout, scream, panic, mad rush to the sand . . . It was raining!

Oddly its warmer inside than this time yesterday despite outside being a bit cooler.. but not much in it. Currently 21.5 outside and 25 degrees inside. Hoping this might be the last uncomfortable night.. bit suspect tomorrow will be equally so.. and it will take a few days for the house to cool down despite maxes dropping back into low 20s, minima still in the 13-15 degree category. Though much fresher northerly airstream is forecast so that will help.
