Not a jot or splash today, don't know why much of central lakes escaped the showers, all activity collapsed as it moved north even though radar showed precipitation, absolutely nothing here

or here in the northern lakes

The boy, who was taking part in a football coaching session, was taken to hospital but did not survive.

New  storms on the way. Macclesfield area.

Managed to see a couple of distant flashes, didn't hear any thunder, quite an eventful day/evening.

Quite an odd turn of events, seems the fells killed all energy whilst further south and east fun and games. The Lake District is a world to itself.

Looking to the west I can see flashes from the storms further south.

Nature at its worst. RIP and my sympathies to the boy's family and friends.

Yesterday was actually nice. We had one rogue shower in the morning, followed by a day of really warm sunshine. We went to the beer garden in our shorts & t-shirt and enjoyed temps of 17C. Then the showers came around 4, temp dropped to 9C with large hail. Lastly, a violent thunderstorm in the evening with fork lightning.

Overnight low of 2.9c. Snow still visible on Blencathra and Great Dodd. Sunny intervals. A brief rain shower just before 7am. All tops clear. Now clouding over but still good sunny spells. Warm in the sunshine

Quite a spectacular and long-lasting hail shower over Manchester, biggest pieces are larger than a thumbnail!

Rinse and repeat pattern isn't it lately - nice in the mornings and then chucks it down during the afternoon like it it did again earlier on. Not bad now though some nice lengthy sunny spells. But looking further ahead still no real warmth on the horizon, not even high teens. Seems to be no way out of this pattern at the moment.

Lovely day here today.  Been in work for most of it but as far as I'm aware there was just a brief drizzly shower about 2pm. Some really majestic cloud scapes noted when on my breaks, I thought there would be more activity, like yesterday, but it has been quieter for thunder/lightning today.  Anyway, a glorious evening, I wonder if nocturnal cooling will spark anything off.  Still quite chilly at 5am when I get up, still needing the heating on.

Its been quite pleasant today at 15'c and partly-broken skies allowing some good spells of sunshine, just had the one heavy shower at around 3pm but I missed the heavier ones towards Marple (which is fortunate as the morning was spent on a 18 mile hike to Etherow Country Park and back.)

Not a bad day overall, quite bright, a few pangs of sunshine, just one shortlived fairly light shower - we seem to be dodging them at present, let's hope they don't decide to make their presence felt over the weekend instead, but the forecast suggests we might not be so lucky by then. Still disappointingly cool, haven't sat outside since I can't remember when..

Tends to be the conditions we most likely have in the second half of the summer rather than late spring, which typically here in the NW is the most settled time of the year. Convection often develops in the warmer core of the year, when heat escapes from the ground, producing shower clouds. Mind May can see very stuck patterns, sometimes of a high pressure variety sometimes as looks to be the case this year, trough / low pressure dominated, sometimes northerly or easterly airstream.
