Some brilliant walking conditions this morning apart from the sheer depth of snow

Quite stunning for 2nd week in April - you'd think those pictures were taken in middle of January/Feb.  Reminds me of the snow events in the 80's where appreciable amounts of snow would fall during the night and the skies would clear to allow decent walking (or for the kids) playing opportunities the following day.  Recent times we tend to teeter on the marginal side of things and it's wet slush and grey skies not so many hours after.

Gloriously sunny morning with 2-3 inches of snow blanketing gardeN.

interesting  science lesson for the kids today with different object absorbing the suns energy and melting snow at different rates

also snow was to dry this morning to make a snow man

Yeah it’s been a bit of a reminder of how winters used to me.

TBH the conditions just before New Year were similar to now but with less snow on the ground although the hard frost helped it to hang around for longer than this lot will.

Its thawing quickly now and I expect most of it to to have disappeared by tomorrow, although that doesn’t help local league cricket which starts today,.

I imagine the run ups and outfield may be a bit slow.

Slightly envious of all these photos of snowy scenes....

However, I won't complain, it's a sunny day with blue skies.....time for another bicycle ride round West Lancs.

Stunning pics everyone. Snowy fields with a clear blue sky will always be my favourite weather preference. Have never seen anything of the sort in April. Suffice to say this April spell has been more significant than the February one in terms of snowfall.

This reminds me so much of the April 81 snowfall.

This one is a couple of weeks earlier and we’ve had less snow this time but both followed some warm weather and on both occasions the snow quickly melted as the sun got to work.

also on both occasions the April snow was heavier than anything in the winter just gone.

anyway off to my daughters over in Yorkshire to finish off a garden job I started yesterday but at least they’ve no snow to clear first.

Sunny day again.. But drying out very fast. These are usable days for outdoor walks.  You can go for a walk without sweating... All in all pleasant and somewhat reminiscent of a February morning.

Lovely to see snow here in April and a real bonus for me having spent the winter in warmer countries.

Best of both worlds, and you had a bonus snow event in Athens to boot.  Nice to have you back in the UK.

Did a disturbance develop last night, a trough feature? Or was it just convection.. odd given it happened well after the sun went down..

Looking at current radar, things about to go pop here, plenty of wo try showers over Galloway heading our way...

Good to see all the fantastic pictures of the snow and a real reminder that April always has potential to pack a real wintry punch. I travelled down South yesterday and witnessed decent snowfall on the M6 in Staffordshire with snow readily settling on the motorway. Another glorious day here today. What fantastic weather we've had during this month so far.

Light graupel and snow mix just started. Sunny before that.  8.0°C. Remarkable to see snow at this temperature. Just about had an air frost last night around 20 minutes at sunrise; The first since February.

Just popped in from the south east to say what amazing and beautiful winter wonderland pictures. This April is turning into a real chiller, especially further north. Although we may see a few snow flakes / graupel down here this afternoon...

Well as quickly as it came, most of my snow has disappeared again, such is the power of April sunshine.

A few 10-20 minute snow showers turned the hills white again... most of them have missed here to the east and earlier west... woodburner on and Spanish tapas consumed...

Thought we might have a few showers this afternoon, alas nothing.. another freezer of a night ahead, temp dropping now as sun goes down, currently 5 degrees. Expected to get down to -3 degrees again.. getting used to this now. Unusual to have such a long run of air frosts in April.
