A bland day very average, max 9 degrees just, rain this morning, cloudy this afternoon..

Looks like we might have some weather to talk about mid week.

Looking at the models we certainly haven't left winter behind, although the GFS and ECM operationals are almost certainly exagerrating the easterly later on, it does look like some kind of winter could extend into April this year.

Also I am of the opinion the summer is likely to be quite poor for warmth and settled weather as the jet meanders it's way northwards (over us) during the course of the summer (the long term seasonal models tend to agree)

But in terms of historical analogues for next winter that means...

Just to contradict my above post a bit have you seen the similarities between now and the 6z forecast v March 2003. Similar patterns leading the GFS to thrash out a similar scenario to 2003. Obviously the models are struggling with the exact placement of the pattern but interesting to analyse if nothing else

It's March.

I'm not interested in this at all.

Winter not done my any means.

But Summer is a long way off to predict anything at all.

Freezing level 400m roughly expected, I think some of the maxima is rather high for Saturday, sub 528 dam air from Thursday. Under any showers temps will drop to about 3 or 4 degrees.. so yes some decent snowfall on high ground. All very normal for March which on high ground is often every bit as snowy as Jan Feb, this year has been odd last 3 weeks bare free of snow due to lack of precipitation

I can't see us having a spring like last year (which is a shame because May is by far my favourite month) but probably a safe bet that some hot, sticky humid weather will invade us from the south during High Summer.  We are after all cooking our planet.

Yes the weather might not play ball this Spring, who knows, but I guess we are only just over a week into it so plenty of time left. May can be a stunning month though - strong sun to get the Vit D topped up, short nights & low humidity. It's usually a decent month in the NW, sometimes the best of the year for dry, sunny and warm temperatures. Back to the here and now and finally some action on the weather front after boring nothingness. I really detest this weather we've had lately....not that cold but not warm either and often rather cloudy. It doesn't inspire the weather enthusiast.

Yes, rather mundane weather in recent days. However, the predominantly dry weather over the past week or two has really allowed things to dry out. This has been great for getting out on the bike and much better than having to cycle through saturated bogs.

May is my favourite month weatherwise, can be superb think 2018! Generally it is a month full of positiveness and apprehension for the summer.

In the here and now.. March is about to come alive.. it has been a mundane rather cold start.
