There is usually a day in late February that heralds that change in feel from the winter base state to the new season upcoming, same thing happens in late August, the sense summer is fading and new season on the horizon. Today was that day, what it doesn't do is act as a full stop, just a slight shift in the pysche. It has been a lovely day, lots of people enjoying the sunshine, birds tweeting, a far cry from last week's gloom fest, certainly raised my spirits.

Alas, will come crashing down to earth again tomorrow, long wave trough stuck in situ for about 36 hours making a beeline for Cumbria, tropical maritime air feeding in pulse after pulse of rain. It is these synoptics that deliver the excessive rainfall events - same charts as the likes of 19 Nov 09 and 5 Dec 15.

Once past Wednesday thankfully there looks to be a lengthier drier spell, I can stomach it on this occasion given the medium range output at least.

Indeed the atlantic looks like it is about to run out of steam, with high pressure ruling the roost and perhaps something colder in time.

I missed the sunrise but Carol K had a good pic on Breakfast TV. Dry here in the south of the region again this morning but wind is v blowy compared with yesterday. It appears that the weather will be settling down after tomorrow, but with cold nights. I can live with that as long as it stays dry.

Cold - fine, mild - fine. As long as it's dry........(and not too windy).

Not as wet as expected so far, rain has been mostly light and patchy, indeed it isn't raining right now. Feels wintry still temp 8.7 degrees, indeed more akin to November in complete contrast to yesterday which felt like April.

Edit a pulse of gusty rain has moved in.

Turned very cold and grey this afternoon after some more welcome sunshine this morning, but still dry.

I missed the sunrise this morning after having a lie-in and to think I was going to be up early for a short walk around the Goyt aswell. Currently gusting 43mph in Buxton but no rain, its feeling mild outside too despite being overcast.

Since my post at half 1, oh dear how abysmal an afternoon, yesterday felt like April, today like mid December. Very wet  dark, indeed no light at all.. thoroughly miserable! This is what a SW 'at least its mild ' airstream brings to us here! Only 9 degrees as well.

After a dry start it’s peeeeeed it down pretty much constantly since mid morning and today was meant to be the dry day before the rain edges further south tomorrow.

just a shame it wasn’t snow; not because I was hoping to get a late winter dumping but because it would have stayed to our west as forecast and tomorrow’s would have probably skirted us before pepping up again across South Yorkshire and the Midlands.

Mostly dry here today with just smattering dampening the ground. It's like a different world the further NW you are in the region - areas that aren't sheltered by rain moving in from the SW. Crazy differences on the 24 hr accumulated rain fall.

Certainly Groundhog day, but dry, mild  and grey again in the south of the region after overnight rain.

Wouldn't say it feels like February today, more like September. There has been days in July 2020 cooler than today.

Very heavy persistent rain overnight. Still raining now.. a miserable day. Let's see if this afternoon turns out as dark as yesterday.

Thankfully there is a drier outlook which makes it more bearable.

First UV level of 2 tomorrow here, a sure sign we're tilting ever closer to the sun in the northern hemisphere. Although still not strong enough to make vitamin D naturally, has to be 3 upwards according to my GP if you are fair skinned.

When do we reach 3, late March? It's usually then I begin to feel the effect of the sun, suncream time mid April onwards.

Around mid to late March. Of course sunshine permitting around the Solar noon.

A miserable day, worse than yesterday given the rain started off light yesterday, but today moderate throughout. 9 degrees, not especially mild.

Why cant we have 48 hrs of heavy snow, no problem with rain!

The dreaded SW airstream.

Yes, there seems to be a bit of a north-south divide in the Region, with not a spot of rain here in S Cheshire today despite threatening leaden skies. It's also been really mild although not the 18C that somewhere in the SE / E appears to have had today.

Picked up 31.5mm at 9am.  Sunless and almost non-stop rain since then.  Some heavy bursts.  So will be interesting to see what's in the gauge tomorrow.

Late afternoon it went very dark, almost like midwinter. 

So that red sunrise 2 days ago was indeed a  warning.

Land sodden.  Hoping the tap will be well and ruly turned off soon.
