Not a single flake here. Nothing. To be expected.

The block has dried everything out.

Meteorologically, a very interesting day.

Can anyone else remember dew points being so low? No wonder the front fizzles so quickly the air is amazingly dry! Think in 2018 the lowest I saw -8

So in conclusion, we get the cold in and it's then too cold to snow. And then the snowshield did its job on top to keep any precipitation away anyway.

Slow clap.

I think today has proved to an extent the old saying ‘it’s too cold to snow.’ The air is remarkably cold and dry more so than the BFTE in 2018. It’s just shredded the front and any snow that does fall is very dry. Tomorrow might provide some initial interest for higher ground further east but for the majority it’s likely to be sleet/ freezing rain risk followed by plain old rain. Looking forward to Spring now.

Not a snowflake from that front. Woeful effort, but a good reminder why many a cold spell ends with a whimper.. low humidity combined with very low dew points and fronts are wringed out like a sponge. Often takes a couple of fronts to dislodge the cold surface air.

Oh well, its been a good 7 day spell of very cold often sunny and mostly dry weather. Coldest 7 day spell since late February 2018. Unfortunately snowfall wise we managed a light dusting and nothing else. Watch us have our biggest snowfall if the season in Spring, only 2 inches to beat, in an average March we can expect such a fall..

Next 7 days will be a complete opposite, wet at times, often gloomy and cloudy and dank, and mean temps probably a good 6 or 7 degrees higher with minimal frost. Tomorrow a transition day and looks to be a thoroughly dank miserable affair and still cold.

What I don't understand is how they can warrant putting heavy snow symbols and then say there is only a 9% chance of precipitation , surely it would be better to put a a symbol that represents the higher chance as most people just look at the symbols.

Are you sure it’s a heavy fall of potential you’ve just struggled through.

amazing how much of that we’ve had this winter.

The 2m temperatures are not that remarkably cold, infact some places are not to record an ice day today, including Manchester Airport. Its the wind and the very low dewpoints that make it feel colder than it is on the thermometer.

I remember seeing snow flurries during the January 1987 blast and the maximum was about -4C/-5C

Its the dew points that are remarkable for today.

That's just an automated forecast with no human intervention. Best to stick to the text forecast, which was actually pretty accurate for today.

A bit more precip possible according to the TAF’s as we go through the evening but freezing rain/ice pellets becomes the main precip type.
