Bbc and met must have a line of code in their forecast generation that intergrates with the radar output. Hence why weve been getting nowcasts of snow popping up when previously forecast as dry. Today has really exploited that flaw.

Its disapointing, but an inevitable choice for a look and feel of accuracy to the public.

For us, we know the snow is  probably not coming. The models have for days been saying so.

GFS seems keen though.

Nope, its quite bright too .. has gone a bit more grey this past 10 mins or so, but i suspect this will be it for today.

Radar has you under heavy snow. Not light or moderate, heavy.

You’d be a bit cheesed off if you had a lie in, checked the radar when you woke up and expected to open the curtains to a winter wonderland.

Stupid hobby this.

Does anyone else recall such a significant difference between radar & reality before?

I can’t.

Ppn only about 10 miles to the West of here if the radar is to be believed. Sunny at times here still.

It makes you wonder exactly what it is the radar IS even picking up. There is some snowfall in NW wales though. Very light by the looks of it but we might see some snowflakes blowing about in a bit I suppose.

Tip run done (too much cardboard for the Friday collections); it's blowing a hoolie out there, 0ºC and feels so much colder; grounds solid underfoot, but zero signs of ice anywhere. That winds keeping it off...

Anyone else had their forecast changed to 'light snow and a 'fresh' breeze'?!

Ppn marching steadily East still according to the radar. Maintaining intensity as well. Darker skies to my SW now.

Just thought I'd log back in to say radar is totally wrong, very dark, very windy, very cold, very dry!

Heads up to you lot. Slightest precipitation of ice pellets has just reached between Corwen and Rhuthun, North East Wales -2C... but Northetn coast seems where action is

We need the dew temperatures to rise rapidly before anything can fall, they should do as the milder air starts to mix in more. Today always was going to be the case of nothing falling despite what the radar might tell you.

According to the radar a patch of light blue has moved through here, I think I might have seen a rogue snowflake. The dewpoints and dryness of the air is squeezing any moisture. I'm off out for a walk for a bit and will report later mid afternoon 3pm onwards or so, hopefully something might be falling out of the sky by then!

Our Ice Day has gone, its up to 0.4 degrees.

Can’t win can we. It’s either too mild and it rains, or it’s too cold and the dew point is too low, zapping the moisture before it hits the ground.

So easterlies don't make it over the Pennines, sliders stop down the road and head back south, Irish sea showers are often marginal, direct northerlies are usually dry and now the air is too cold and dry for snow to reach the surface....I'm ready for spring that's for sure - apps are saying 15degrees next Saturday that'll do. It'll probably be half that raining mind.

Skies have completely clouded in here now. Radar shows ppn now over us. Nothing falling though, as expected.

It's a nailed on cert that the heavy rain forecast for tomorrow will arrive just the way it seems to happen for us. Its quite bright at the moment will get another walk in for sure this afternoon before the mild muck gets here.
