I wonder if Merseyside might catch a few flakes today?

That band isn’t far away. It’s ahead of schedule as the IOM Met office have brought forward their amber warning.

It's certainly ahead of where Euro 4 has it at this time.

Surely should get something from this.

Front is slow moving Sleet readily turning to Snow hitting landfall.

Ireland battered.

Wouldnt pay too much attention to the leading edge, likely to be incorrect as was the front the other week... the actual snow is likely about 100miles west of that. Currently we are about 10-20miles from the front edge and the sun is out with lots of high fuzzy cloud

It was definitely Brrrrrrrrrr out on my walk this morning, certainly on the tops with a lazy wind blowing snow off the fields but lovely all the same.

plenty of snow drifting in the lane I often walk along with large areas of ice and it made a difference to how many people I came across, namely none.

Cold day ahead, may have an ice day. Currently -1.4 degrees under cloud cover, unusual in itself. Air is very dry, no visible frost. Looking outside your think it was about 10 degrees..

The Atlantic front appears to have more oomph in it than expected, and we have a few hours of light snow this afternoon, and perhaps a cover which will be nice.

Yes, you're probably right, probably evaporating before it reaches the ground on the leading edge as it bumps into the colder air mass.

Yep Russ is correct , not many snow reports coming in from North Wales - generally dry looking at the cams and reading reports, even on Anglesey where the front should be well established by now.

Don’t trust the radar today.

You never know. Metoffice app has me down for 60% chance of light snow at 15:00. Not to be taken literally of course as it is  automated. Skies turning hazy here as the front edges closer.

Yes, agreed. The last two frontal events showed intense ppn over us when it was bone dry and then showed very little over us when we had moderate snow!

Yes. Reading other regional threads the radar isn’t to be trusted. Very little if any snow falling.

I concur - dry here

Judging by the radar you would assume you were getting loads of snow. Plenty of moderate, even heavy echoes straddling the North Wales coast. Not a good omen for us it has to be said.

West of the region remains the most likely place to benefit if a miracle does indeed happen.

First ice day here for over a decade coming up I suspect. -2C currently.

Bright with hazy sunshine every so often.

Next week it may reach 13-15C!

With regards to the precipitation evaporation and the false radar returns across north Wales - in theory as the front gains ground, more moisture is in the mix, the snow should make it to ground level but this could be painfully slow process.

The radar on its own looks hugely more promising than I’d anticipated. If we start reading snow reports from North Wales then west of the region may have a chance, but let’s just I wouldn’t count my chickens.

You never know though.

I’m absolutely amazed it’s not snowing in Abergele/Colwyn Bay - they should be getting absolutely hammered looking at the radar. What a shame.

Not expecting anything at all this far inland but the BBC forecast was teasing showing a bit of white down the spine of Northern England so maybe the region will scrape a few flakes later today after all.

just a shame that tomorrows milder air air arrives before the heaviest of the precipitation although this probably sums up the winter so far but even if the last few days have been a 2 out of 10 when it comes to turning snow potential into reality, it’s been 8 out of 10 for cold and I’m looking forward to some milder weather to give the heating a rest.
