1000 feet up is like the Himalayas compared to here.  With a 3C drop in temperature per thousand ft increase in elevation, it makes a huge difference to snow prospects. If it weren't for work, I'd be moving to somewhere at that elevation, minimum.

What snow?  It's rain mostly up in the Lancs hills.    A different life.  Welies and macs, mud, rusty decay and rain ravaged gardens, roads and buidings.  Good views on a clear day though.

Slowly making its way down.. shouldn't be long until we see it change more widely

That's a handy app/website. Do you mind if I ask what it is?

Its the NetWeather radar extra app... I've corrected the time on it now - had originally uploaded the wrong time.

Bit of an error there on my part. Just started chucking it down again. No sign of anything remotely wintry here

No idea why the random quote either

I’ve had that for awhile; quoting twice or putting random quotes in.

Ppn needs to be heavy for low ground to see anything later.

Its been all snow for well over an hour and pretty heavy but the ground is still a bit to warm for it to stick, certainly on the roads and pavements.

frustrating really as I reckon we’d have had at least a couple of inches on the ground by now.

Wow Met office app is a joke...  Had snow symbols every update for the past 4 days for this evening and tomorrow, the day of fun finally arrives, and the most recent update has just canceled the lot!

@Joe Bloggs

I'm sure we were ahead of the game here

From Matt Hugo

Getting some short-term consistency for a pronounced band of SHSN through Mon. Note 00Z and 06Z GEM for midday on Monday. A few others in there as I mentioned earlier, but one significant one running into parts of N England, N Midlands and perhaps making it over to NE Wales.

The first chart is the latest run which is more favourable too

Didn’t know there was such thing as a 06z GEM.

Yeah like you say more and more of these charts are starting to look a bit like 96 with a band moving right over us, or close by at least. Very interesting.

Just back from another walk around Valehouse reservoir and the temp dropped from 6 to 3 degrees in an hour and a half.

All reservoirs full apart from Rhodes wood, which is about 15 ft down and the bypass channel into Valehouse below is in full flow.

Bypass into Valehouse.

A rainbow ending in Valehouse.

Better be careful what I do with my 1 cm then but Looking at that chart, unless you live in the North Pennines you won’t be opening the front door to any more than a light covering.

Sounds ideal! I'm very much an outdoors person and love getting into the hills/mountains. I'd take the negatives any day. Granted, you don't get snow all the time high up in hills, but you do in general get significantly more than places at sea level, or close to sea level. A small amount of elevation makes all the difference. I've only been living here for a short period of time, but was traveling across for work for ten years and even compared to where I used to live at 165m asl, there were stark differences in snowfall and/or accumulation. It would often be raining here, when snowing at home, and snow accumulations were usually way more significant where I used to live.

After having being dry since the early morning deluge, we've just had some heavy showers in the last hour with ice pellets mixed in.
