Quite surprised to see so much of this rain is still frozen in one way or another. Is the cold coming in earlier or is it just heavier bursts.

Noticing a more ESE’ly tilt for Tuesday now. Not sure how this will affect our shower distribution. Not saying it’s a bad thing at all.

I doubt it. Would have to come through Peak District surely?

There are are few gaps where showers can penetrate through given the chance and obviously the right wind direction

That's a SE flow rather than ESE flow at that point surely with the other one being E' flow?

ESE seems like it would need to go somewhere between the two. Let's hope we get the right one.

Anyway back to the here and now - there's definitely flakes in this rainy mix.

@Joe Bloggs

This is interesting mate regarding the GEM from Matt Hugo as we've been saying it's picking up streamer/convergence zones earlier/better than other models.

"Short-term convergence zones very difficult to model, some models rarely get put to the test for obviously reasons across NW Europe, different story for the Great Lakes, one of the reasons why I think the GEM model is good in this setup..."

I didn't say either, I just said gaps where showers can penetrate through, the flow of the easterly will vary so we have a chance.

Very very interesting. The GEM has consistently shown bands of snow moving across our patch. I will be very impressed if it gets this right.

Just ran the frames from the GEM and it’s really interesting for the NW. Snow for a good number for us.

Here’s one little snapshot but other frames are just as good.

Rain here definitely turning splatty with the odd flake mixed in. Tops slightly higher are already white so just need a bit more cold air and we’re off!!

Just spent the last hour of my walk in that stuff and decent gear or not, it was wet.

turning more and more to snow now though but still only settling over about 1100 ft although that should drop
