Looks far too marginal for my liking. -12C wind chill just doesn't cut the mustard either

I have a few palm trees. I also have guava plants, bananas and Citrus. It's like Florida down here!*

Alas I'm not actually joking when I say we grow palm trees here in Wirral. This is in New Brighton.

You'd think the pennines were a few thousand metres not a few thousand feet going by some of these charts

Northerly lakes, easterly Pennines, doomed! Westerly hell yeah drizzle for days , one little gap for for west lancs northwesterly as long as isle of man don't grab it

Well that's another new one from the metoffice - 'snowy showers'!

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Mostly sunny with scattered snowy showers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Very cold with risk of frost and ice.

As always with the models it usually settles on a "halfway house" scenario between two extreme outputs. The mild extreme from a few days ago or the cold extreme from last night's 18z. I fully expect the Atlantic incursion to be delayed somewhat but it will make it in eventually.

Lol and very cold with a risk of frost and ice. Just how cold does it have to be for that risk to become reality? +3C of very cold temperatures ?

Some of the wording on those forecasts !

Look at this

"Mostly wintry, rarely heavy"

Given the airmass, I would be shocked if any showers weren't of a frozen variety but rarely heavy?

Why don't they use the term "mostly light"? That term has been used for years.

Yeah, that one as well. I swear they are just doing this for a laugh to see the reaction it gets on the forums! It's all gone a bit weird at the metoffice ever since they lost the contract with the BBC.

For our region East is best over the coming days, as one would expect in an Easterly ...

I'm not convinced our region will be as  dry as BBc/meto are depicting...

Looking at the radar the easterly looks to have started in Scotland showers barley making it in land thou

over our region it’s a shame the uppers have not yet arrived but it would be nice to see a streamer like the the band over us on Sunday

Its fine again at the moment but heavy showers in the last few hours have left a bit of wet snow on the cars and lawn here but the tops are completely white.

I would guess that the snow line is at around 1150 feet and hopefully that height drops quickly during the day as the cold easterly kicks in.

just hope that this isn’t the sum of our snow for today and this cold spell.

To me it looks too marginal for snow on low ground this evening also not much precipitation showing on WRF although I think it may have modelled this incorrectly. Above 100 m will be fine. If we can get some heavy precip freezing level will be brought down to the surface right to the coast so won’t be a problem.

Absolutely hammered it down here about 30 mins ago. I could hear rattly bits on the window every now and then so I presume there may have been hail mixed in. Forecast looks good for some snow later today, even at low levels.

Edit: Can confirm we definitely had hail here. A light coating of ice pellets on the lawn. Encouraging signs.

Morning guys,

Yeh mate and they probably reside in London.

If we do not see something develop within the next five days that manages to beef the showers up to cross the Pennines for the west I'll be amazed.

Bitterly cold air, driving easterly wind over a warmer North Sea...
