I didn't put it there. Unless I've accidentally copied something.

Easterlies don't usually deliver in this part of the region. At least it'll be dry. Hope it proves me wrong this time ❄️

It's going to be interesting to see what comes of this for us this side of Lancashire.

Hopefully we'll see some cold, wintry weather

We should have been heading off to Dunkeld in the Highlands on Saturday; my folks have property there and we always go this week as it's my Dad's birthday (will be his joint 70th with his twin brother and the whole family were going)... Not this time

Typical that the weathers looking like it's going to be exactly how we want it; cold, snowy and perfect... God dammit

Ignore the snow symbols look at those maximums

and yet I have a max of 3 for Preston on Monday, would that difference for Preston and Oldham be likely in this sort of set up?

Oh wow that's BFTE stuff right there. My area of Manchester only showing maxes of 2 and no snowfall, reckon MetO will update this later on

The Met office yellow warning for the weekend east England is a watch this space type. No details at this stage  quite right really. Every chance for upgrades to amber and extension west. The boundaries are often very arbitrary and under an unstable easterly airflow showers and snow will easily make it across the west in the synoptical set up.

Nah, doubt it. Met Office automated forecasts always overestimate temps, especially for places west of Manchester. They normally give us the same temps as Liverpool/Wirral, when our smelly microclimate is closer to that of Manchester Airport.

Yep! Not often you see a warning so far out with this level of uncertainty from the Met:

"Cold air will spread across the UK during the weekend with wintry showers likely to push inland into parts of England from the North Sea. This is likely to bring areas of accumulating snow through the period with some icy stretches developing. At this stage no single area can be highlighted as more at risk but given the coldness of the air disruption is possible at times."

Yes, I noticed the drop in temperatures in the local BBC forecast last night. Quite a contrast with today which (in the south of the region) is pleasantly mild.

Unlikely to be heavy snow here or anywhere West unless a disturbance pops up in the flow - ala 30th Nov 2010, however don't panic about met office warnings not covering the region yet, they haven't even got one out for Kent yet, unless the models flip back Northwards with the cold uppers, i cannot for the life of me see how Kent could possibly escape a dumping with -10c uppers with low heights from a direct Easterly.

What I am noticing that interesting, if you have a look at the Met Office automated forecasts, they are giving a few days of heavy snow in Snowdonia. Showers reaching that area will surely reach this area too, they have to pass over! Unless they die almost completely as they hit and then topographic lift takes place as they hit the hills.

I'd just take some lying snow that lasts more than a day without turning into slush!!

It will be based on elevation. The general rule is roughly a 3C decrease per 1000ft increase in elevation. Parts of the outskirts of Oldham are at this altitude. I believe that the centre of Oldham itself is around 700ft asl.
