Another front running masterclass from Bryony! Booommmm!!👍

    Evening all,

Hope I find yourselves and your Families, well and that you all enjoyed another superb Afternoon of Racing.

Totally agree with B.B. above, yet another great Frodon-type front running performance by Bryony Frost, on SECRET INVESTOR.

All 12 Entrants had at least 1 Selection "make the frame", in the Category 2, Lucky 15., therefore I have a lot of Settling (calculating), to do on that front.

I will post up any Returns for each Entrant gained from Category 2, when I collate the "Virtual" Returns for the entire Weekend, Tomorrow Morning.

I will now post up each Entrants "Virtual" Returns, from the Singles, in this Afternoon's 7 Competition Races, in performance order:

     Bristle Boy - 56.63 - TomSE12 - 46.85 - PaulBR7 - 39.48 - Dreckly -37.95 - HayleyBR7 - 22.38 - AvengerSE12 -17.30 -                                     StephenSE12 - 16.30 -  K/Weather - 14.47 - Cassie/SE12 - 13.76 -  Lassie23 -13.65 - Summer Sun -12.17   AntonyBR7 - 5.22 .

BRISTLE BOY, performed best of all this Afternoon. He found 4 Winners, "Double the Odds" Race Winner, SOARING GLORY (17/2>17/1), which gained him - 21.13, SECRET INVESTOR (14/1), AJERO (7/2) and MINELLA DRAMA (13/8).

PAULBR7 and TOMSE12, also found the "Double the Odds" Race Winner, SOARING GLORY (17/2>17/1),

I will now go off and calculate, all those Category 2 Lucky 15s, and post up any "Virtual" Returns gained, Tomorrow Morning.

    Regards,

    Tom.  👍 🏇

    Morning all,

I hope yourselves and your Families, are well.

Just spent the first half of the Morning "Settling" (Calculating), all those Category 2, Lucky 15s, and there were some pretty "juicy" amounts gained, amongst them. More on that later.

I've got a lot to get through, so I'll crack straight on.

I will now post up each Entrants "Virtual" Returns, from those Category 2, Lucky 15s, in performance order:

    Dreckly - 134.44 - TomSE12 - 128.16 - Lassie23 - 90.50 - HayleyBR7 - 83.13 - Cassie/SE12 - 31.48 - Bristle Boy - 12.75 -                                              AntonyBR7 - 10.87 -PaulBR7 - 7.16 -  Summer Sun -2.94 - StephenSE12 - 1.88 -   AvengerSE12 - 0.88 -K/Weather - 0.46.

DRECKLY, performed best of all the Category 2. Lucky 15s. Coupling "Double the Odds" Race Winner, SHANNON BRIDGE (12/1>24/1), with POLISH (1st 14/1) and BUZZ (5th 10/1). The Win part of the Lucky 15 = 103.75, and the Place part = 30.69.

Just want to make special mention of LASSIE23's Lucky 15. Lassie proved you don't necessarily need Winners in a Multiple Bet, to get a decent Return. Lassie's 3 Placed Selections, were as follows: THIBAULT (2nd 80/1), FIFTY BALL (2nd 14/1) and SOUTHFIELD HARVEST (3rd 4/1).

In all my Years of working in the Bookmaking Industry, I can't recall "Settling" (Calculating) many Multiple Wagers with such a large Starting Price, involved. Nice one Lass. I bet Dad was smiling down, on that one!! I hope you "actually" backed it.

Had Lassie's 1st Leg Selection, COBOLOBO (5th 13/2) got placed, his "Virtual" Returns for a Place Lucky 15, and Accumulator, would have been - £452.75. £328.72 for the place Lucky 15 and £124.03 for the place Accumulator.

Below, are the Lucky 15 of those Entrants, that gained them more than £50.00 in "Virtual" Returns:

    image.thumb.png.725b6b93408039197857a545e6dcc996.png

DRECKLY, has a superb couple of Days, and moves into the lead.

TOMSE12, has a wonderful Weekend, and after being able to pick his nose, takes 2nd Place.

HAYLEYBR7, has an excellent Saturday, and takes 3rd Place.

LASSIE23 has an excellent couple of Days, and moves up to 4th Place.

BRISTLE BOY, despite a very good Weekend, drops down to 5th.

CASSIESE12, has a good Saturday, and moves up to 6th Place.

PAULBR7, despite a reasonable Weekend, drops down to 7th.

ANTONYBR7, has a poor Saturday, and drops down to 8th.

AVENGERSE12, has a very poor Weekend, and falls back to 9th.

SUMMER SUN, has a very poor couple of Days, and falls back to 10th.

KIRKCALDY WEATHER, has a very poor Weekend, and falls back to 11th.

STEPHENSE12, has a very poor couple of Days, and remains in 12th.

Just a little over £40, between the Top three, with the winning post in sight.

But as this Weekend proved, a couple of Winners in the additional Wager, can result in a huge jump up the overall Standings Table.

The final Saturday of the  LATE WINTER HORSE RACING COMPETITION, sees Live Racing from Kempton (4 Races), Lingfield (2 Races) and Newcastle (1 Race).

The last additional Category Wager of the Competition, will be the choice of Callum (KIRKCALDY WEATHER)

More details on that, in the next few Days, after I've contacted Callum.

Those of you that watched the big Handicap Hurdle at Newbury, won by Soaring Glory, may have heard mention of his Owner, Pat Hickey.

Mr. Hickey was a client of ours, when I worked for Sunderland Credit Bookmakers, in Croydon.

His Horse, SOARING GLORY, was obviously quite fancied and I'm sure Mr. Hickey was "on", especially as it was Trained by the very shrewd, Jonjo O'Neill!!

He was one of our largest, Irish Punters. When Mr.Hickey came on for a Bet, you always had to refer the Bet to the Management Team, which PAULBR7, was one of.

We had a lot of Racehorse Owners, amongst our Clientele at Sunderlands.

We had to be very careful, when accepting their business, as you can imagine they were privy to a lot of "hot" information, from their Trainers.

One of the first things a member of the Public would ask me, when they heard I worked for a Bookmaker was, "Got any Tips?"

We obviously heard a lot of "hot information" but not all of it was good. You had to separate, the "wheat from the chaff."

If you backed everything that was considered a hot Tip, you'd be skint in no time!!

I didn't get involved in backing Tips, in the latter part of my Career with Sunderland Bookmakers.

But I can remember "kicking myself" one Afternoon, when one of our "hot" Clients came on to back 2 Horses at Newbury.

Both Won, at 10/1 and 8/1, and a lot of my Colleagues were "on", and all won a tidy sum.

    Regards,

    Tom.  👍 🏇

    Hi Jackie,

Congratulations on taking the lead!! Very nice Lucky 15 there. Shame it wasn't "Actual" Stakes, rather than "Virtual!!"

Full steam ahead for the Cheltenham Festival, now.

I will give Saturday 6th March a miss Competition wise, as I'm feeling a bit jaded and need a Weekend off, so I can recover, for what's going to be a very busy Cheltenham Week.

Hopefully, all the usual Racing Crowd, will take part.

If all the "Gang" read this, would like to know if they've got any ideas, for improvements to the Competition?

ITV said Yesterday, that they will be Broadcasting 6 Live Races on each of the 4 Days, of the Festival. (Tues. 16th March/Fri. 19th March).

Below, is a link entitled "Big Race Entries" , where you will find the Current Declarations, for the main Races at the Festival:

Big Race Entries | Racing Post

I will start the Competition Thread, during the first Week in March and  begin the Cheltenham Festival Competition , on Saturday 13th March, with the Imperial Cup Meeting, at Sandown Park, and finish with the Midlands National Meeting at Uttoxeter (Sat.20th March).

During Sunderlands sponsorship of the Imperial Cup, "we" were the first Bookmaker to offer a Bonus, for a Horse to win the Imperial Cup, and any Race, at Cheltenham. "We" had to "cough up" the Bonus 3 times, courtesy of OLYMPIAN (1994), BLOWING WIND (1998), and GASPARA (2007). See this from Wikipedia, below:

"The sponsors of the Imperial Cup have offered a financial bonus prize to the owner of the winning horse since 1992, awarded if the horse goes on to win any race at the following week's Festival. Winners of this bonus have included Olympian (who won the Coral Cup at Cheltenham), Blowing Wind (County Hurdle) and Gaspara (Fred Winter Hurdle)."

Please let me know, if you have any suggestions for the Cheltenham Festival Competition.

    Regards,

    Tom. 👍  🏇

I think I'm right in saying, it's the most valuable Handicap Hurdle to be run, throughout the whole of Europe.

I'm sure BRISTLE BOY and PAULBR7, will enjoy watching their "Double the Odds" Race Selection, winning again. I know I will!!:

As I stated in my previous Post, SOARING GLORY is owned by a former Client of the Credit Bookmaker, I used to work for, Sunderland.

A shrewd bit of Handicap plotting by the Master of Jackdaws Castle, Jonjo O'Neill Snr, and given a very confident ride by his Son, Jonjo Jnr.

Now, the Bookmaker sponsored Game Spirit Chase, also run at Newbury Yesterday:

Alan King's SCEAU ROYAL, ridden by Daryl Jacob, gets the better of Nicky Henderson's Champ, ridden by Nico de Boinville.

Finally, the Bookmaker sponsored Denman Chase, also run at Newbury Yesterday:

Another brilliant front running ride by Bryony Frost, on Paul Nicholl's SECRET INVESTOR.

The pair get the better of Stable Companion, Clan Des Obeaux and Harry Cobden.

Callum (KIRKCALDY WEATHER), has got back to me, regarding his choice for additional Wager 3. He has chosen a Round Robin.

More details on that, in a couple of Days time.

    Regards,

    Tom.  👍 🏇

    Evening all,

I hope yourselves and your Families, are well.

Much thanks to those Entrants above, for Tomorrow's selections.

As those of you who aren't Family Members are aware, it continues to be very traumatic time for us all, since we heard the news on Wednesday, that my Son Antony, had passed away.

It seems so surreal sitting here, picking out Antony's Selections, while he is lying in a Mortuary, in Orpington, Kent.

What makes things so much worse for myself and Colette, is that we weren't able to see him for over a Year, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, for fear of transporting into the House, where Antony lived with Hayley and Paul (BR7).

    Below are Tomorrow's Selections for ANTONYBR7, CASSIE/SE12 and TOMSE12:

Some of you may have seen an image of the amazingly generous and thoughtful Memorial Plaque on Callum's Champion's League Competition Thread, that a friend and work colleague of Antony, Hayley, Paul and myself, has had erected at the Emirate's Stadium, home of Antony's beloved Arsenal. See image below:

    image.thumb.png.d91dee87cbffc21b3d5321575406b787.png

It seems Antony had a word with the man upstairs last night, as Arsenal edged into the Last 16 of the Europa League.

See you all Tomorrow, God willing.

    Regards,

    Tom.  👍 🏇 🙏

I hope you are coping okay Tom, this pandemic has ruined everything and the thought of you  not being able to see your son throughout it is heartbreaking. You did what you could do to protect Antony and I'm sure he appreciated it. My dad's memory was bad and he couldn't even remember what Covid was and was probably wondering why nobody went to see him at the hospital. As you rightly say, the entire thing has been surreal.

The best to you and Colette and good luck on Antony's memorial competition day.

    Regards

    Lassie

    Morning all,

We hope yourselves and your Families, are well.

Much thanks to Lass above, for those very kind words.

Before I start posting more of Today's selections, I just want to start with a couple of anecdotes about Antony.

Below is an image of Antony, during his early Years at St. John Rigby R,C. College in West Wickham, Kent.

The School became infamous, when the Headmistress (Colleen McCabe), was found to have embezzled £500.000 of School funds.

Some of you may have seen the TV series, starring Pauline Quirke, entitled "The Thieving Headmistress", about that episode. Below, is an image of Antony in the uniform of St. John Rigby R.C. College

    image.thumb.png.85051170f715d6ba79ce9f1f6ff97ee1.png

It was a few Years later, that I started to realise that Antony was beginning to get a taste for Horse Racing!!

On the Afternoon of Tuesday 16th March 1999, Antony returned home from School, in a very excited fashion.

I, thinking that my Son had attained a very good mark in an Exam, pressed Antony on the reason for his excitement?

He came back with this response, "Dad I backed the first 2 Winners of Day 1, of the Festival".

"Hors La Loi 111 (9/2) and Flagship Uberalles (11/1).

Gobsmacked, I retorted, "Ant, since when has the Cheltenham Festival, been part of the 6th Year Curriculum?"

Quick on his feet, my Son replied, "It's ok Dad. I took my tie and blazer off, before I went into William Hills."

Evidently, Antony/Friend would pop into the Betting Shop, in West Wickham High Street, to begin their Punting careers.

I thought to myself having a 10p Each Way Lucky 15, was a novel way of spending your £3 lunch money!!

But I found it hard to lose my temper with Antony, because of those innocent, angelic looks.

That first flirtation with Betting occurred in March 1999, a couple of Weeks short of Antony's 18th Birthday.

So, although Antony shouldn't have entered Hills until he was 18, he wasn't far off of it.

Because of his innocent, cherubic looks, my Son looked younger, than he actually was.

Another comical situation occurred when Antony attended a Session of Snooker, at the Wembley Arena.

It was around the time, that Antony looked like this and was sitting in the audience, with a couple of Friends.:

    image.png.e91603b2139c94fbb746945818c6d677.png

A BBC TV viewer, phoned the Channel claiming they had spotted Comedian/Quiz Host, Joe Pasquale in the audience.

Antony took a lot of playful "ribbing" at work after that and was known for a while, as "Squeaky Joe!!"

In a short while, I will post up some more selections, for the final Day, of the current Competition.

    Regards,

Tom, Colette and Family. 👍 🏇
