Finally proper heavy snow and settling on most surfaces.  Long time coming, but looks like ground temperature has finally gone below zero ❄☃️

I'm in an Amber area but seen nothing yet? I guess my time will be later in mid to North Norfolk

glad i’m not the only one here that’s in the new part of the amber warning, can’t see what made them extend it earlier but we’ll see!

Snow: Still not settling away from the odd patchy bit on grass. I'm really not understand why it isn't settling at this point?

Lack of intensity and ground temps too warm? It does seem like we need it to get heavier to overcome the puddles and wet ground. Hopefully DP’s dropping below zero will dry out the air and the ground.

It's laying on them where I am, so I'm not sure. Would have thought it would have started to by now.

It slowly is. Very slowly. Can see a layer of slushy puddles it is laying on. Hopefully as it gets darker it will. I think we have a good 8/9 hours left in this that’s before Any showers

snow is coming down moderately, but not currently sticking. it does at some point

Same in Burgess Hill. Been quite heavy on and off for at least a couple of hours now (particularly heavy right now as it happens) but very little has settled anywhere. At least the trees look pretty ?‍♂️?‍♂️

I’m feeling quite good in Bromley about that long line of convection stretching up to Norwich. Still refusing to settle on roads and pavement though

Darcy was never forecasted to hit us at all...what we were always going to get was a wrap around feature from a weak low pressure that formed in the channel and then got absorbed by a new French low.

I think what might have happened is the LP feature ended up about 40-50 miles CLOSER to us, I noted that last night around 2am. What that did was delay the cold air wrapping around.

What was expected:

The models all expected the cold air to be in place by 4-6am originally. This would have meant that snow would have fallen earlier, settled earlier and started a feedback loop which ensured more and more fell as snow and then settle, and that would battle the temperature increases that you nearly always get in a stable 850hpa temperature set-up as you reach later morning hours

What happened in reality:

The cold air took a few hours longer to get down as everything was displaced a little NW, which meant a few hours longer of rain during what should have been optimal settling hours. So the feedback loop that was expected by the models never got going until the air was already starting to warm, which meant the feedback loop only really was able to get going where the precip was strong enough and intense enough to overwhelm the failed feedback loop.

Appreciate that explanation, thank you x

Man the abuse/anger via my social media inbox-PM.. and even a few em-mails.. with people demanding their snow ❄️.. and borderline outright abuse I’m getting is crazy ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️.. it’s incredible what /how the weather certainly effects the mood -all round...anyway... I’m certain that again this is all a little delayed and most will have their fill .. over coming hours....

Shouldn’t happen mate

there are more important things to moan about than weather

Hello mate. What a shame the ground has been so wet. I hope this dont turn out to be a waste of snow and it does settle somehow.

I'm hoping for just enough to blow into the B1146 so I can't get to work near Dereham from Fakenham

I know this may be obvious to some, but the radar is much more representative of who's getting what when you turn OFF precip type.

It shows the intensity difference much better.
