Here’s what 20 minutes of snow will do in Reigate...

Looks like you got lucky that the front edge of the system has prepped up as it starts to become more defined as the rest of the area starts to decay.

It should slowly decay from this point onwards as it moves westwards and the forcing within the system decreases through the day, though not totally its fair to say. Hence why a dusting is just about possible further west still from this.

I'm so far west I expect nothing much will be left of that area by the time it gets here in like 6hrs!

I am awaiting reports from likes of Great Dunmow and Chipping Ongar. If they report heavier snow its edging my way.

I’m in Chingford, not too far from Chipping Ongar. It is getting heavier here as some of the more intense radar returns are building west, although the entire system itself is still moving NE-SW along a similar trajectory to what it has done so far.

If we can't get settling snow at 1 degrees in the beginning of February that is quite depressing.

So how does that explain frozen slush, on cars?🤔

Don't you love when people try to tell you what the weather is like in your area 😂

Large part of East Anglia at or below freezing.

On the not settle I get on surfaces question..

my therory is that even though it’s cloudy and snowy there is just enough solar energy getting in to introduce a wrong side of 0 situation on those surfaces in lighter spells.. trees, bushes and to lesser degree grass are covered ok. If we can keep snow falling from about 3:00 onwards then solar radiation goes and I think we will see improvements.. and maybe the gritters will come out, not seen one today

Yes I would agree with that. When I look at North facing roofs, the patchy cover from earlier has survived. The south facing roofs, clear. Having a heavier period of snow now after an hour or so of lighter stuff.

A few spots may touch freezing at times and with a strong wind it will freeze quickly.  However, the Met Office reports show temperatures generally between 0C and +3C in EA.

Well, in that case, I'll go with my ability to distinguish what's frozen solid from what isn't. And, anyway, I wasn't commenting the temperatures, in other parts of East Anglia?

Maybe those in the South East should just enjoy what they're getting right now rather than moaning.  Try living in south west Wales and then you would have something to moan about when it comes to the chances of getting snow.  Chances of lying snow let alone falling snow is near impossible.

Borderline sunny in Cambridge! Plenty of blue skies above my back yard. Streamers this pm, eve and overnight the best chance for our area I think!

Yeah I think so too. The frontal stuff just won’t make it here. Zilch so far, going to have to go some to get the few cms forecast!

Is it settling where you are at the moment?

Apart from a very few who have been in a prime location, this has turned out to be a very bland event so far. Especially being a Sunday when we are all at home

Think I’m going to give the forum’s a rest for a few days, not great for the mental health.  I will enjoy the surprise if any white stuff arrives. Stay safe all.

Pathetic isn’t it, light snow with medium sized flakes and it might as well be raining out there! Much as I love snow, non settling snow just infuriates me.

Much bigger flakes than earlier in South Colchester. Moderate, at times heavy snow, - 0.5°c, 2½"of snow on the level and building up much quicker. Strong breeze causing the snow to drift readily.

Eastbourne is light sleet now after big flakes. I'm hoping someone can make me happy and tell me Eastbourne will get battered later/tomorrow?

Don’t know about battered but my understanding is that the winds are due to switch later to more of ENE which should make it a bit colder still. I guess it might come down to “how’s your luck” when it comes to being under some showers.
