Poor showing here today. Considering the vast amount of snow floating around, just the roofs and cars have a slight covering.

would love to know why the radar is doing such a bad job over Norfolk currently, but nice to hear that Norwich is finally in on the action!

been light snow in Dereham for over an hour now from a stream of showers, can't help but think no matter how much falls now the roads are going to be treacherous now its decided to stick on them!

It is strange and yes, I wouldn't want to be driving tomorrow. Best if luck for some heavier stuff over in Dereham!

Countryfile weather more positive for overnight

Showers have decayed a lot since an hour ago, first time I've actually seen gaps in the radar since this morning

Wind at City Airport has veered 50o Between NE and ENE any streamers will head more towards London, and Surrey and Kent away from the kent coast.. imo.

I must be right on the limit then Dartford requires a ENEly or Ely because the precip otherwise dies out over South and East Essex, before reaching there, whereas Gravesend just about gets away with a ENENly lol if that's what you call it

I am very disappointed with the Met Office forecasts today but also past several years in cold conditions. Yes, these synoptics are rare so models are less experienced, but putting out an amber warning and saying wall to wall heavy snow even when its not even snowing at all? Not what I call an established and respected forecaster.

Thankfully I did look at other models and forecasts so wasn't expecting as much, but they really got this wrong I'm afraid.

Still, to be nice they got their forecasts spot on during the summer heatwaves we had

I knew this would happen! As soon as the temp drops, it's night time and the pavements and road are prime for covering, it stops Snowing

Well what a day.

Non stop snow all day..

First ice day for a few years as well

Have about 8cm 3 times that in drifts.

Oh and yes it's still snowing.

Current temp -2.2

All roads covered as well so a treacherous night to be driving.

Looking forward to opening them curtains in the morning.

Roll on day 2...

We have some moderate graupel type snow here which is starting to stick. Interesting.

Snow falling very lightly here. A few breaks in the cloud allowed me to see some of the stars too.

Just been out for a stroll, there is a constant super fine snow coming down making everything glitter, blowing around in the howling wind.

Starting to get quite slippy underfoot, take care out there.

4th Ice Day of the Winter here.

4cm at the end of the Day so not the greatest here but just stepped outside and everything is frozen solid, the sky has that proper convective streamer feel about it, my east view of the Estuary is of Showers forming just offshore, might be some Thundersnow for Kent Coasts tonight although Cape and LI not really supportive of that.

Well done to the Bigger Spots like Clacton who got 14cm and I saw a report on the North Downs at 16cm, if those places get clobbered by another 15cm then in my opinion the Amber was warranted for them. 30cm of snow does not occur than often in the SE of England.

But who would be a forecaster eh like a football referee you cant please everyone

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
