Very excited to say, the snow is now actually laying after hours of just disappearing into the wet ground!

 

Its also coming down pretty thick too!  Think im more excited than the kids!

@Nick F the 700mb vorticity charts you showed from ec op relating to increased chance of snowfall are not reflected in the actual snowfall charts ....

 why does the model not see that from its own vorticity output ?

The intensity here has increased and there are hints that snow is trying to settle. Mainly a flash of white where the wind has blown it into a corner.

I'm not expecting anything here Paul. If I get a dusting it will be a good result.

There is a push but take a look at the overall shape and size of the total precipitation shield. Its not budged westwards at all. All thats happened is the weaker area of precip has reduced in size as the band starts to contract in overall size as the forcing weakens as it starts to push westwards.

As that heavier stuff starts to try to push westwards its going to continue to weaken, and the front edge is hardly that impressive to start with.

By the time it gets this far west its going to snizzle and nothing more.

Been snowing lightly here (Silver End, Essex) all morning. Settled on roofs, trees etc after about an hour. The intensity has just picked up and is now laying readily on paths and roads.  Still teeny tiny flakes though!

Snow intensity increasing over London. Very dry snow blowing a lot in the wind.

The 06z EURO4 is not accurate for my area (Wandsworth, SW London) in the short range. Indicating around 2cm of snow depth, whereas in reality it's too warm to settle at all so far.

Currently snowing lightly, no sleetyness since about 9am.
