The Met Office forecast is being extremely bullish for the Amber warning area and indeed for an area extending outside it - am a lot more optimistic than I was an hour ago!

It's nice to see the heavy snow symbols once again.

However I have noticed the MO models have hugely overestimated snow in recent years, with the BBC (meteogroup) doing a better job. Once again last night the BBC forecast is way more realistic.

36 hours of constant heavy snow all whilst below freezing? Was never going to happen!

My BBC weather app has just done the usual switching from heavy snow all day to just light snow today... It's like it switches and hopes that you won't notice..

I made this a few days ago.. little explainer on why apps really aren't worth taking as gospel, but better used as a broad guide.

Blizzard conditions here in whitstable an hour ago with heavy snow . Not settling on paths as so wet . Light snow now which isn’t doing much . Beautiful to see though

But, as those of us daft enough to have tried drying Daddy's car bonnet, so the snow might settle, will tell you: it's nae that it's too wet; it's because it's not cold enough...

Hmm, I'm going to need that band to edge a few miles West or at least to blur at the edges. Can't be dealing with being the wrong side of such a sharp gradient...

That said, persistent if mostly light snow is blowing around and gradually turning things white.

Sky is brighter than you'd want it to be ideally

Is it me or does it look like it’s getting more intense over the sea heading towards Kent ?

Now at 0c exactly.

If we can dip a little under, then hopefully we can start to see a small layer build.

Certainly the windiest it has been all winter!

Snow showers up north look way more widespread than forecast by any hi-res model. This should give us some hope later on

Absolutely this - compare that to what is shown on even hi res models, and you can see the potential for the next 48 hours

I'm currently in Guildford,  weather here best described as sunshine and clouds but really cold feeling. Does feel like a winter's day.

I'm still predicting a dandruff dusting later on for western parts, something to get excited for!

I've been getting constant heavy bursts off the sea here all day so far. One's just coming in now.
