Not normally - Epsom is in a good spot for a streamer. The story I’ve often told on here was when my wife got stuck driving back in the snow from Epsom in December 2010 when pregnant - she left at 3pm and got to Reigate at 1.30am!!

Horsham has been rubbish the last few years hasn’t it? My memories of living in St Leonard’s forest as a kid in 87 and 91 were fun though!

Epsom, though, is north of the Downs, so south-west of the Downs (e.g. me) may be a little different.

It was always going to be in the early morning.

Not in St Albans it wasn't. Snow was predicted earlier in the week to start at midnight, by yesterday evening it had been brought forward to 10pm, now it's been shoved right back to 3am.

At this rate I'll be waking up to a starly snowless rainsoaked scene.

18z 6.3

Pretty Meh

will be interesting to see if the MetO suggestion of 30cm for NW Kent brings us into play for a similar scenario here, Paul

Looking good from Folkestone lookout!

would love that wind to move more NNE for mid Kent streamer.

I believe that red alerts will only be very localised, not blanket for a whole large region.

As an example, 6" snow in a Kent village will cause far less disruption on a Sunday that 2" snow in the centre of London?

How about people having no heating cause the electric goes in this cold weather, it'll be a big region. People are forgetting the wind, and just factoring snow.

Fair enough. But sick to death of hearing how well the South East will be doing when we’ll be getting FA!!!

You have been saying that for days now. I don’t think you will end up with nothing. Am hopeful for 2cm or do here in Farnborough

On 24 January here near Dorking the A25 was gritted the night (Saturday) before and there was a sharp frost.  Snow started at about 0900 and was 12cm deep by 1115.  The road was covered as if it hadn't been gritted at all.

Same here in Reigate - gritting won’t help overnight!

That’s true - although you do have box hill close by for more snow...

I know Darren Bett isn’t a fan of cold. But I love watching old forecasts on YouTube. You could genuinely see some of them getting excited as a big event approached.

Unfortunately the weather never looks at apps on phones. Nor goes it view charts, it just does what it does and the trend is pretty clear for this area. Has been all day. We will get snow, just not very much.

I still reckon you’re in with a shout of 10cm.

@Paul Sherman what's you gut feeling on how this will compare to the BFTE in 2018 in the Southend/East Essex area?

5.3c and falling away here...

That looks slightly further east compared to the met office warnings.
