Sorry really don’t want to appear picky but. I still find it difficult to believe in 30ft drifts having lived more than a few years in Essex.   Anyone got a photo?

You'd be amazed at how efficient dry snow is at piling up even in a gentle breeze.

There were definately 30 foot drifts in 1987 in parts of Essex and Kent, I have numerous weather journals with these amounts with pictures, the books are in the loft but will get up there one day and take some pictures of the pages on my phone and upload them

And I can absolutely back Paul up with this. I was living in Southend at the time and we had close to 2 level feet of snow. The easterly was blowing for 5-6 days solid and the drifting was just insane, particularly around hedgerows at the edge of fields. The number 1 event for me by a country mile

Sadly I wasn't proficient at using SLR cameras back in the day so my dad took the photos I posted but I climbed on top of a lorries freight which was abandoned on the Burnham bends...a drift which was on the east side of it of 15 feet allowed me to do so, incredible sight all around but had no instamatic camera with me at the time to take photos.

You couldn't see the main road just the slight glimpse of the odd hedgerow...

Yep amber warning looks good today based on the 12z.

For those in normal streamer spots it's probably going to end up with now casting it as the models very much struggle.

Outside of those areas, it does look bleak especially further west you go sadly.

Breakdown has morphed into a slow and steady erosion of the block rather than a bang frontal breakdown.

ECM draws in a very cold SE airflow  at the surface by Thursday, such a flow would be give very low temps around the SE given extensive snow cover over Europe.

Hi Kold - Where do you expect the western extent of the snow Sunday?

Average house 23 odd feet high. Show me some photos please. Yes I have seen very deep drifts but nothing like suggested.

Question for @danm

Do you remember the mini event of I think 3 Feb 2015? Was a really weird one that dumped 5-7cm across Chingford Plains in Epping Forest yet there was absolutely nothing east and west of here. I got into town to the office and there was absolutely nothing.

Was that from a Wash Streamer?

Don’t remember any significant snow in 2015 around here? Winters 2013/14 to 2015/16 were almost snowless. Quite common for there to be lying snow in the suburbs with little to nothing on the ground in central London though.

We did have some snow in Jan and Feb 2019 if that’s what you’re talking about?

Right on the boundary of 8 and 11cm’s. I’ll take that.

A very unstable notherly developed and a polar low spawned and tracked NW>SE across the country, it was slushy but defo 4-5cm here.

That euro 4 shows nearly 20cm of snow out east

5-10cm of snow across London and into Richmond Twickenham etc and even out to bracknell Reading..

If its what the met are going off and ignoring the other high res models then I would expect them to be looking at it very carefully..

Must note Euro4 most westerly solution this evening so far

Hope so.. I do really well out of Thames streamers in 2010 we had over a foot here

Same, been a long time since I saw a proper one, even the mini streamer we had a few years back gave us a proper coating in about 1 hour.

How are we looking for the Reigate area for snow on Sunday? Lots or littles?
