January 2021 was a cold, very wet and exceptionally cloudy month in London. A 3cm snowfall on 24th gave the first lying snow in London for 2 years.

Substantially colder than average month, finally. Recorded a high of 11.2 (20th) , and a low of -5.6 (7th). 15 frosts, 4 ice days and 7 snowy days. Quite good in todays climate.

This was the coolest January for 6 years with a mean temperature anomaly of -0.3c below 1991-2020. This 30 year bloc of years are the warmest in the 140 year climatology of the local weather site. So far, it is the coolest summer for 6 years.

Mean minimum:   12.7   ( -0.3 )

Cantley weather data for January 2021

Well what a month, all manner of records in the bin!

The wettest January since 2005, the coldest since 2010 (1.8), the most days of snow and lying snow since 2015(6/4); more frosts this month than any since xxxxx

Couple with the last 10 days of December the past 40+ days is the wintriest in quite a long time. Anyway the statistics.

Mean=3.2(5.1)

Avge Max=5.5(7.4) The warmest day was the 20th with 11.3 and the coldest day 0.3 on 24th

Avge Min=0.9(2.7) Coldest night showed -4.0 on 31 st and the warmest night 10.2 on the 20 th

Days of frost=13 air frost(7) and 15 ground frosts(12)

Days of snow=4 falling(2) and 4 lying at 9am(2) largest fall = 5cm

Rainfall=85.0 mm(34.7) and the wettest day gave 18.0 on the 20th
