With another excessive amount of rainfall forecast and many areas already flooded and expecting worse, I think it is worth keeping up with the areas most likely to see flooding and monitor river levels in these areas.

Please post rainfall totals and forecast amounts in here so that we can keep an eye on the latest situation.

Here are the links to the UK's EA flood watch areas.

So far England has 11 flood watches and 115 flood alerts

Scotland has 5 flood alerts

Wales has 10 flood alerts

And NI site is difficult to navigate!

Hopefully, given the warnings, councils will prepare as best they can.

Sadly it looks like Fishlake, again, may be flooded, fingers crossed for them that is does not, other areas of Doncaster also at risk as the Don especially picks up the flow off the Peak District.

There is also this one, which includes private level gauges, and is quite often more up to date than the. Gov one.

Thats the one I am using for the River Aire at Apperley Bridge where my mum is. I have been reliably informed by my mate who works for Calderdale Council Flood Risk Dept to make plans for moving things higher by Wednesday as he expects it to flood again and perhaps surpass the 2015 Boxing Day floods!!! Not good news at all im afraid...

Is this for general discussion regarding the weather conditions for flooding or more model related?

General, rather than model based - but rainfall projections important

The flood works, now complete in the Upper Calder, might get their first real try out but if we trust the blurb from the contractors prior to the start of the works it should be able to cope with 2015 Flood levels?

That said the vultures are already camped in Hebden (BBC News)

The works in Mytholmroyd have probably tripled (or more?) the volume the channel here can carry and it only just failed in past flood events?

I will, of course, be popping into the garden too check river levels throughout the event & will keep you updated of any developments!

Thankfully for south Yorks the rainband is further north than predicted atm.  Every little helps. River aire in west yorks could be worse for it though.

Shoothill used to be the one I used religiously (I live in an old water mill).

But recently it has become very unreliable, as soon as the levels begin to rise their updates slow down and can be as far as six to eight hours behind, which is effectively useless.

The one on the Gov site is far better. It uses exactly the same info from the same river level stations, the only difference being that the Gov figures are rounded to the nearest cm but Shoothill to the mm.

Its early days yet, the moist conveyor is only just getting going,  it will wave across central and North UK until the lows join and move off to the North Sea tommorow night.

I was going to say it's not even heavy so far in Leeds (warm front/occlusion is north of us) but I see the cold front heading west into the Pennines now.

I assume this will meander south to cause issues.

Usual spots around here (River Ouse at St Ives above today) have already burst their banks before any of the next few days rainfall feeds in. River levels very high. Even the Cam has a few flood warnings in force.

Here in the Calder valley we havnt had the rain they have all been talking about. It would have to be very heavy and prolonged overnight for any serious flooding!

More bits and pieces with intermittent rain so far. But warnings are rising...

So, pardon me for my lack of Welsh, does Orange mean river, or flooding.

..and why, other sheer nationalism, doesnt any river that passes through or ends in England count as flooding. Asking, as I know there are several in the North end, along with the Dee which dont seem to appear.

Look at the intensity of the rain falling over the S Wales hills! Something you'd expect to see more with convective rainfall in summer.

Orange is flood alert in Wales and England. If the river passages from Wales to England then it is then covered by the EA in England

Orange means flood alert and shows the river catchment areas of those under a flood alert. That’s why there’s a lack of  rivers appearing in NE Wales as there aren’t currently any flood alerts ☺️

Yes that looks heavy and it would probably (looking at the latest radar returns) that it could join forces with that lot in NW Wales.
