Cristoph now at peak intensity over North Sea, two oil platforms well to the east of central Scotland reporting gusts to 140 km/hr, some gusts in similar range over higher parts of northeast Scotland. Heavy snow all over northern half of Sweden and Norway, and all of FInland. Laying down a deep snow cover in this region could be a good thing for UK cold and snow prospects in February if any strong Scandi highs come along.

Very wet, heavy snow here. Fallen branches. Not looking forward to the ice.

is it wet snow because the dew point is just a bit high? i think i have seen that before where the flakes are either really big or wet its because of the dew point. either way; ice after that fall will be treacherous

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
