Sorry I'm old school but what the hell is IMBY ?!

In my back yard: absolutely stupid criticism/cliche used by weather-nerds to attack those who are interested in the weather in their own area! Crazy, I know!

Undoubtedly there are a few surprises being thrown up. There is a lot more energy at this time  than any of the models suggested, so there may be a surprise for many of those who missed out earlier.

Unless it's more sleet lol.

Hopefully soon it was a great one round here today . Snow still here now . It’s all so localised though isn’t it . Friends  in Brighton were well fed up with me sending endless photos and videos of snow 35 miles away when it poured all day their and their walks were quagmires

Be interesting to see how much is left as it pushes back SE, could be a cm or 2 in it for places North of London.

Hope everyone enjoyed the snow and got away from the radar for a few hours!

I’ve been watching the radar and it does seem to be moving back towards N London over the last hour or so...?

It's definitely on the move south.. Strange Amber from the met.. The places init like Nottingham are seeing the PPN die out but the warning runs for another 3 hrs..

You can see the northern edge slowly sinking south now.. Fingers crossed

You'd think if there was to be an Amber warning it'd be a bit further south that Nottingham

IMBY is the worst weather-geek cliche of all time. I mean, all weather is local, especially snow. Nothing wrong with wanting the snow near you.

Sets my teeth on edge when I read that phrase “IMBYism”, very much hope you get snow in your back yard mate later in the winter.

Me too, we're supposed to be satisfied if it snows in Edinburgh, but Dublin and Amsterdam are both closer to me, am I supposed to be satisfied if it's snowing in them too.

Exactly, it’s completely ridiculous.

The worst weather-nerd cliche of all time.

Complete non event here, as it was for a fair few in the south east

That's exactly what's happening, it should start moving S/SE throughout the evening, perhaps places like Luton and Milton Keynes could be in for a surprise considering the intensity.

Not good to sneer at people disappointed with snow. You never know, the snow shield might strike your locale next time around.

Still snowing fairly hard here. There is around 5cm on top of the car at the moment. The best snow event I have witnessed since January 2013.

It is nice that some of us in the less snow-prone areas (London particularly) that have been snow starved for years managed to see some settled snow today.

Bad luck to those who didn't, but your time will soon come.  Possibly sooner than you think!

This is ridiculous! I'm in the perfect place for the band of snow to get just close enough to laugh in my face before it pivots away!

You couldn't make it up! My little corner of EA is the only spot it's going to miss, whereas places close by are stuck under the flow and getting an absolute pasting.

The vigorous energy in the front suggests that if it does snow in Lutons it will be massive clods that are the size of binlids - that's what it's always like there
