Still snowing hard here, the noo, but now reaching the de-accumulation stage. 'Depth' of around 0.5 inches or12-13mm. Or in 'thread units' kentimetres -- nearer to 50!:santa-emoji:

And, for added perspective, 4hrs' falling snow is more hours, than what fell during all the winters, since 2013, combined!

Decent fall this morning in Epping Forest. Got some sledging done up at High Beach. Raining now but already much better than last winter!

No wonder better than last winter?...it was dreadful with not a cold spell in sight! right up there amongst the worst winters experienced in terms of mild,

What an utter fail... AGAIN!

Woke up to snow on ground this morning barely a dusting, and I'm at height, then it chucks it down all gone

50p sized flakes now, had a level 2-3cm now and most of that has fallen in the past hour. Seeing a lot of the posts from around the region looks like we get lucky over here

This January has been a woeful month. okay we've experienced 'cold' and some air frosts but the month to date has been woeful in terms of sunshine and continually raining. Mild winter - deluge, colder winter - deluge.

Still snowing in Norwich, surely it's got to turn to sleet soon

Almost stopped here but definitely turned sleety, so light though it’s having no effect on the laying snow

Well much earlier whilst still dark we had the heavy snow maybe for over an hour or so and at most say 2cm on ground. But since about 8am it turned sleety and been rain for a while now.

Certainly hope before winter is out we have a decent fall and February can sometimes be a great month.

And just like that, it’s turned. Felt lucky to get to see some decent snow, onto February then and hope we can get a more meaningful spell where the whole region can get in on the action. Until next time...

Good job it's still only January, as if it was any later I'd have been ready to give up on this Winter and start dreaming of Spring warmth. But for now there's still time for us to have another bite of the cherry.

Woke up to a slushy dusting in NE London. Had already turned to rain by 9am.

Desperate stuff. And more to come.

Saw some snow first thing this morning. But had to run 5 miles up a hill to get to it.

Judging by the comments so far today, it looks like the Met Office had their amber warning in more or less the right place. Norfolk seems to be where the fun is happening. Perhaps their warnings overall were a little ambitious, but it seems  the front pushed through a little quicker than the model was suggesting yesterday afternoon when they issued them. Later runs picked this up, but obviously too late to change the warning!

Rain here now 8am temps was zero, now 6c.

Milder air now taking charge...that's it I think for January.

February might be better.
