I've been keeping an eye on that - seems to be a recurring theme on the GFS

Looks like 4-5 day spell again - which I would take at this stage

Yep... Could be a proper cold snowy spell from Sunday onwards if GFS is right

I don’t believe it but nice to have something to pin our hopes on after today’s dismal weather

Have you seen the GEM? - It's a beauty and imo better than the GFS

20+ cm snow widely over the south east. Just in time for my self-isolating period to finish

Not an uncommon scenario to see organised areas of snow move out of the continent into the U.K. once easterly winds establish. Worth watching if the initial pieces of the puzzle come together. The last event like this would have been January 2013 I believe that brought blizzards along the eastern parts of England including Kent/EA.

yes - GFS bit of a goldilocks run in getting the cold in quick enough but not too quick to block to northwards progression of the ppn. Ends up delivering 24 hours of moderate snow - but if cold comes to quick it could deflect things south, if it doesn't come quick enough, more sleet!!

GEM is insane, looks like something from 1979, so probably won't happen.

That will be based on ECM, very unsupported at this point. MetO long ranger and many other models won’t agree with that

What an utterly revolting day. Roll on spring.

Lovely to see the snow falling today in Woburn during daylight hours but I have to agree, underfoot was revolting and now it’s raining at nightfall - weird one that.

Anyway, the roads and rivers around here are the worst I’ve seen since 2014 wash out winter. So much water.

Anyone that screams ‘‘we need rain’’ in spring/summer 2021 after 2 weeks of dry weather needs redirecting to this thread.

Wise - although we will know by midweek - or maybe sooner if the whole thing goes Bristol's up

A case of clutching at straws to a degree but there is a perfect set-up for a Thames streamer right now. We just need the DP's and temps to come down a notch and it could give some people get a wee covering this evening.

Ok lets get a bit of a reality check here.
it’s winter and it’s the UK. We are a temperate island and no matter what a model might show in ten days’ time the nature of things will do what it wants.
So, into reality. It’s going to get colder than lately, there may be an easterly, we might have wintry weather, we may even get snow. But it’s all about ‘if’s and ‘maybe’s’. I totally want a winter to remember, but I cannot predict that, nor can anyone one else. Professional or amateur, you cannot foresee the future of what nature might do.
It’s all about the next 2 – 3 days as far as I am concerned. And that’s more about temp’s and wind rather than conditions.
I will never in the rest of my life understand why people look into the future of something so unpredictable and make choices on those predictions.
Live for today,
Many people live their lives for Someday. They put their dreams on hold, waiting for the right time, not realising that someday may never come.”

Hi peeps

I would love to know where these weather apps get their data from For London it's showing snow starting from 3pm tomorrow which obviously is more likely to be wrong. Like today when it showed snow for 3 hours and we know what it turned out today. Talking about false hopes

It's far to windy for convection to develop today I think. Blowing an easterly gale here for hours now.
