Much heavier now, and settling a little as well. Better than nothing, which was what the forecast was for today.

This looks like missing me by a few miles now. Probably just north of Bishops Storford it will go.

This winter here so far feels like turning up to a BBQ late, and all that's left is some cremated chicken thighs and warm Fosters.

Never mind, hope some in our region will be pleased come tomorrow.

Onwards and upwards! Can we wring anything out of February?

I'd like to think it's more a case of arriving to the bbq EARLY, with just pretzels and crisps to nibble on whilst the steak is marinating.. Feb will be the make or break month.

Going to need the south east brand snow shovel......

The shower is clearing now, looks like there will be some sunshine for the first time today. However this makes up for last nights rain fest, in fact a dusting from a 20 minute spell of snow isn’t too bad.

One or two things in our favour ahead of the previous busts.

This doesn't really mean a lot, but the front is coming into Eire now and looks like it is wintry already. The last two busts have had rain bands coming across that we were relying turning to snow as it came up against cold air.

We will have cold air and cold ground in place - much more so that the previous busts. The timing isnt great for the arrival for those in the north and east of the region.

We are that bit later in the season which might provide some resilience with the dewpoints to stop them rising so quickly when the moisture moves in. Its a tiny advantage but sometimes that is all you need.

I'm also encouraged that everything to the north west of our region appears to be snow today. That airmass is heading our way.

Its still a marginal event, nearly always is at the coast and away from elevation - but there are signs that this might benefit more people that the previous let downs we have had this year.

I wonder if the Cheshire gap showers might provide a little interest later for the NW of the regions.

They seem to have organised themselves better over the last couple of hours.

is the snow still there for tomorrow?

In order to answer that question, I will need a c.1985 DeLorean that runs on plutonium.

Then I can pop along and have a look for you

As I said looks like the snow to north will be about 5 miles away. Looks good for Cambridge.

If that something a foot is a high over us, I'm not worried. Haven't looked at the models so no idea.

Snow amounts across Kent will depend on how much of a continental low level feed we pull in as the system arrives. The GFS 6z pulls up some briefly less cold uppers after the initial snow event turning things back to rain for a while before the cold undercut from the west as part of the system pulls away.

Fortunately it looks as if most precipitation is in association with the leading edge (lasting 2 or 3 hours) before a brief less cold blip (with hopefully little or no precipitation in the afternoon. By evening we could well see further light falls from the wrap around before a very cold and icy night.

Its very exciting.

If we get anything here tomorrow I’ll eat my hat!
