Temperatures are slowly rising in the W of the region, unfortunately ☹️

Mine are staying steady at the moment, I must be the most Westy person on our region I think!!!

I think so too.

It just hitting mainland.

And it's already bright green...

I seeing alot of posts about temps rising.

As the front draws closer it will go up as its a warm front.

However then this can happen.

When rain falls into this air, evaporative cooling will cause the dewpoint to increase and the temperature to decrease. After saturation, the new temperature will be below freezing. This can change precipitation type from rain to snow, sleet or freezing rain.

Evening all, having a last look at the weather data before going to bed, we have mini bets in the house on whether we'll wake up to a covering of snow.

From my moderate knowledge I don't see this delivering anything in the way of snow just like the other opportunities this so far this winter. (for Maidstone anyway)

Okay first thing first, if by some miracle it does snow and settle, it won't last the morning, but to be honest the T850s aren't looking special and the wind (even with a bit continental mixed in) will stirr up the air layers eliminating evaporative cooling.

One positive is that it's a tad colder than forecast at -1.7C, however another slightly annoying thing about this winter is how minimas have occurred around 22:00 before a load of cloud rolls in and the frost disappears before waking up to dank and damp conditions. In fact, the temp is already starting to rise so it looks like another repeat. Anyway, that's it from me!

I normally do alright here, oddly enough, 70m asl isn't the greatest, but it does seem to be enough here, normally I wouldn't bother, had a covering on the 4th December, other than that, my last proper snowfall was march 2013, I missed most of the snow in the last 2 bfte

That makes 2 of us... but nothing in Dec and only an icing sugar dusting in 2018. 8 years now surely our luck has to change soon but I'm not expecting anything bar rain tonight/tomorrow. Good luck to those further north and east.

You must have been dead unlucky with the 2018 BFTE?

Not expecting a great deal here, 10 miles in from the south coast. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Heathfield get a temporary covering though. Only 8 miles from me but it’s amazing the difference a bit of altitude and being a bit further inland makes.

Annoyingly, I was just out of the shower line, my mate, 2 miles away across the rother valley had 10inches of laying snow, I had barely 2cm, amazing what 2 miles does

1-2°C in N London according to nearby Wunderground stations. Oh well.

East Anglia looks like the sweet spot for settling snow ❄️

Not bad, if your dew points are good, you may get lucky

Never say never would you believe this chart produced snow for London and the SE on the 6th Jan 1968 with -3c Uppers. Its such a fickle thing forecasting snow and lots down to luck

archives-1968-1-6-0-1.png

Have a great book that lists all events of winter back to 1840 and you can just look at the Metiociel Archive charts to see what the synoptic pattern was etc Below is an exert from the book for that day

There was some unexpected light snow in southern central England on Saturday 6th. There was a notable snowstorm in the south on the 8-9th, affecting a large area of the country from North Wales down to the southeast of England Snow started in Southampton just before 2 pm. By the next morning in some areas there were drifts 3 m deep

Temp -0.8C

No idea of DP as frustratingly don't have a weather station within about 15 miles!

Not holding out much hope for Mayfield, as lovely as it would be to get a covering it seems a bit pointless anyway when it's going to get washed away pdq! I'm longing for a proper freeze and days of deep, crisp and even but Fingers crossed some of us get to see some of the white stuff. Think EA will do ok out of this.

PS-just dared to venture into the mad thread...wish I hadn't! It's not a happy place to be lol.

My temp has gone up a little since I last looked, but DP has gone down, -1 currently, so not worried just yet. France is helping.

That's either the heat coming from the Thames, or the UHI effects of the city.

Well I didn’t expect tomorrow would come to anything so the upgrades of the last couple of days are a real pleasant surprise. Like others in here, I had an inch or so in Cambridge from the 2018 BFTE (still notable for the sheer cold) and a slushy cm or two in early December last year. Other than that my last significant snowfall was March 2013 - 20cms in my back garden and a level 12cms on the car. I don’t expect anything more than a few transient cms for my location tomorrow morning (possibly a tad too west for the juicer potential) but even that would be noteworthy after recent times! Will be twitching those curtains in the morning to see what comes. Otherwise, there’s always the next cold spell. Good luck guys!

Temperature dropped to 1.8 earlier but has risen to 2.2 now thanks to increasing cloud cover.
Chances are it will be over 3c by the time the front arrives in 5/6 hrs, that will be mostly rain or sleet I think
