I thought I’d post it in this thread rather than model output for fear of being eaten alive by the coldies.
I just had a look at the GFS 12Z and to be quite honest I was pretty disappointed after seeing all the euphoria in the MO thread. True it does bring an easterly, but it looks fairly short lived and is quickly replaced by a wishy-washy slack northerly before the Atlantic comes piling in again, with just a small chance of a reload in deepest FI. Am I missing something here? 🤷🏻‍♂️

There was something mentioned that if the cold gets in, it will be hard to shift, I am a complete newbie to all this so no idea really. I’m just getting excited at the prospects of a beast!!

    Lordy, lordy, an agent provocateur

Another day, another 2 degree rain. I lost count of them. It's an absolute joke. 20 years ago this would have been all snow.   What a waste. So frustrating after a frustrating year and on to

Given that euphoria brought on by too much 'sniffing the coffee' has now become an art form, a quick reminder that counselling is still available, Mon-Frid, at the 'nailed on' clinic

By 2040 in the south they reckon 🤔

By the 2040s most of southern England may no longer get sub-zero days, new Met Office data suggests.

Mmm, not dissimilar to The Independent story from 2000, when Dr David Viner of CRU said children just wouldn’t know what snow is anymore.

Thanks. 19 years to enjoy yet!

It's hard to get snowy winters in the UK anyway so you might only get to enjoy it a few more times within them 19 years😆

I’m excited by the prospects of a cold and snowy spell but completely underwhelmed by the GFS 12z, although in fairness most of the other models are cracking for cold.

Try looking at the ECM 👀

I have and it’s good. But the GFS was king up until now.

Just more than slightly concerned by the GFS 12z that’s all really. I’ve been watching these charts for 2 decades now and I just think it looks cold but nothing exceptional and quickly dispensed with.

Says most of the people in the MO thread when it was the only one showing Siberian conditions 😂

Not all of them - most of us was waiting nervously for the ECM to come on board (not saying it's definitely going to happen)

The ECM was awful up until today but now seems to be the king, whereas the GFS’s halo has slipped somewhat this evening.
My gut feeling for a long while is that we’ll get a very cold spell in February, so I’m not too bothered about what it’s showing (at the moment).

Must admit I do find it strange how Snow can turn grown blokes into toys out the pram mode 🤣. Yes it looks nice on a Christmas card and I do like Severe weather events, but I've never got to the point of losing the plot over it lol

Can't pm you Jordan but something must have changed as MO have issued Amber at 20.38 which caused a few ripples in the NW regionals.

    Hi, 🙂

Local detail regarding snow for northern England may of changed, increased likelihood of impacts/amounts of snow expected which is why an Amber warning is issued.

Someone always manages to jinx it by over ramping prematurely!

Watch the GFS pick the spoiler and see the other lemmings follow!

Can it be true Brighton will miss out again...I may have jinxed our chances by telling my family it looks good ‘potentially’ next week, it really was only a mild ramp honest 🙄

Where has all the drama gone?

I'm an occasional lurker so I missed quite a bit but seems a number of big personalities missing from the MOD thread which is strange given the current output.

Cool with heavy thundery downpours through the weekend & next week

If you're hoping for some dry and warm weather, then it looks like you're in for a long wait, as the cool and showery conditions will continue through the weekend and much of next week. Some heavy and thundery downpours for many most days. Read the full update here

Cool Showerfest continues for the next week. Hints of a change beyond that?

With the jet stream close to the south and low pressure nearby over the next 7 days, expect showers or longer spells of rain over many areas, staying cool too, with temperatures below average. But hints of something drier and more settled arriving next weekend. View the full blog here
