Here's an old forecast that's been upload on YouTube from 14th January 1980

-7C at Exeter then. That seems to be something hard to get recently, proper hard frosts under a high. If it looks possible we end up with un-forecast cloud like the last cold night of this cold spell just gone, which was meant to be clear and cold but was 100% overcast.

Do you know what struck about that forecast? No snow symbols, 3C in the far north and yet Jack Scott used rain symbols here, he didn't even say wintry showers except in the outlook

Nobody's saying much about all the rain in the forecast. Could be the wettest January on record here. Don't think we need that. 2019 was the wettest year on record already and last February 2020 the wettest on record. Just had a very very wet December too.

Apparently Heathrow reported a few flakes of snow around 5:30am; the first snow falling since Feb 2019. Nobody would notice it unless they were awake at the time though, as it didn't settle.

More snow fell overnight here in Prague, looking beautiful and a couple of ice days now, after the marginal snows of the last 10 days. -4°C currently and about 4-5 inches of lying snow. Will enjoy it this weekend as it looks like being washed away next week.

Maybe Steve Murr was right about himself being 99% sure it wouldn’t happen.

Not sure even the Weather Gods know what the weather's going to do these days!

I'm so over this winter, I know for many further north and east its been a million times better than last time around but its been dreadful again for snow down here. Hopefully another 5-6weeks and we can start keeping an eye on the models for when the first 20C will start appearing out in FI

Even in far northern England the snow has been the treacherous wet stuff pretty much everywhere below moorland level.  Freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw, honestly you're not missing much.

We are in the middle of a painful remainder of how winters in Central Europe should look like. First proper cold spell in three years. 15 cm of powder in the middle of my city. It has been snowing since Tuesday. Monday morning will be very cold here in eastern part of Czechia. And then it will be all blown away in matter of hours.

Not sure what magical flip are some expecting. Models are trending milder and milder, January is a closed case.

But you must keep "faith", according to many of the posters. I sometimes wonder if this is a science based site, or a nutty US evangelical lookeylikey. It's never healthy when single issue obsessives take over.

I think the latter is more likely. We must all give praise to our redeemer the Greenland High

The winter of rain 2.0 the cold variety...in the weeks ahead looks like going back to the traditional stuff. My God this month has been depressing!

So true, and whilst I'm ranting, I'd like to ban every post that begins, I think or I believe, without offering any explanation as to why. What they really mean is I want.

That feels better.
