The end of this week is still looking very wintry, but after this  I’ll say this...the SSW has just started so all models will be all over the place atm, even the top man at the METO is stating this

Yh alot of model uncertainty at the moment but looks like a snowy breakdown Thursday and Friday. Next up SSW will it be favorable for our little island.

Just had about 3 mins worth of spotting rain, but that's all so far today.  Though looking at the radar now, the precip has finally started pushing past the moors and making it past Leek.

Also temps are just under 3C with dp's at 1.5, so no chance for anything frozen atm.

bbc had the rain showers rattling in tomorrow, feel it's too early yet for E'lys to be cold, best time from Mid Feb to late March when north sea is at it's coldest

Also the issue that the synoptic setup hasnt allowed cold air to filtrate across northern europe i dont think this year. Looks like poland and germany has had above average temperatures on the whole? Also its a deep rooted easterly flow which has moderated those 850 hPa temps.

I could relate to many a year when Dec,Jan and Feb regarding a cold easterly has happened, you make out that Feb to March is the only time that easterlies are cold....sorry if that’s the case your stating that’s wrong

Sleet shower now, was rain but then the intensity changed it over, more flakes being added

Another day of snowfall to add, although its really just making everything wet - not complaining though!

Heavy rain here. A few flakes mixed in.

Ah well, we have done very well so our luck was due to run out.

Really lashing it down out there...horrid.

Aye, think this cold spell on it's last legs, not sure if any remaining snow will survive the night, wish could just have clear skies

I have a hunch we’ll see more this winter.

Winter’s these days seem to be all or nothing. We don’t seem to get poor winters with the odd snowy interlude any more.

It’s either a winter with a few snowy events, or a winter with nothing at all.

Sadly, I have no science to back it up.

The last week has been good...but we all know better is possible.

And for the majority of Southern England, it’s been a very poor cold spell so far. So for them at least, let’s hope better is on the way.

The stream of showers is at an absolute perfect angle, and it’s all rain!

Normal service is resumed.

Hopefully a true easterly will come at some point this winter.

That sort of confidence will see us do well i personally think from 10pm tonight any heavier showers if there are any will be snow and all showers snow from 1am ish until the warmest part of the day tomoz which may see showers of sleet unless fairly hefty but from tomorrow evening through till weds we should be fine so long as there is some precip.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
