Still frosty and bitter out, can see smoke from a chimney in the distance travelling northwards yet the clouds are moving in a southerly direction, why is this anyone?

I think areas in the 'West Midlands Plateau' which I call an area covering a clockwise pentagon from Wolverhampton, Lichfield, Coventry, Redditch and Stourbridge should be okay tonight for snow as average heights asl are roughly 100m+

Areas south of the big smoke ie. Worcestershire/Warwickshire around the Severn and Avon may have a difficult night for snow, especially so as the night goes on.

Different layers of the atmosphere can have different win directions. Surface flow is Southwesterly (travelling NE), but upper air is a Northwesterly (travelling SE).

Why? Haven't caught up yet, there's no milder air moving in so why will it get harder through the night. I'm in Warwickshire lol

Staffords difficult, certainly snow from the band coming through this evening, however much of Stafford sits at about 50-80m due to the river Sow & Penk, so could be marginal into Friday.

Thanks Eskimo, the clouds are quite low, so not much distance in it - hoping it adds to some sort of convergence tonight for some worthwhile snow! As it stands, the front has barely anything left to it!

Not mild at the surface, however the upper air may be mixed significantly enough later tonight for low areas to struggle.

You need to back this up, from what iv saw any milder air from the west gets mixed out as it pushes south,

Started snowing here outside Much Wenlock at 600ft asl

Just as I was outside putting the Orthodox Christmas roast on the charcoal rotisserie, which was a nice touch.

Lol people on low ground it will literally be a case of look out the window to see what’s happening, it’s pretty cold out there so who knows, I think anyone with just small height will be fine, I for one am looking forward to building a new snowman with the kids
