Fog cleared at about midday, to leave a really beautiful sparkling blue day..

Frost persisted in all places except where the sun's rays directly struck.

Wouldn't call it the shade.

Temperature just reached 0C, but is falling away again now. (14:30)

Looks like another hard frost setting in before the cloud spreads down from the North.

I feel wind direction is going to be crucial to this event.

Westerly and low ground will have hardly any snow. The more northerly the better. At the moment zilch.

Let us not get too excited, otherwise we might have to consider storming the BBC, to demand our licence fee back

Could the lack of bullishness from the Metoffice regarding snow depths be because the snow may not be particularly hard? We had a few light showers yesterday morning that gave a light dusting, but as soon as the sun came up (behind overcast skies) it had melted away and the snow, even when it got slightly harder, ended up just making the ground wet.

Thanks for the replies. It’ll do no harm leaving my car nearer to the main road. As already said, Gornal can get more than other places, and my cul de sac is uphill to the main road!

Once I’m down the hill and heading towards Tipton, I’ll decide whether I should continue to Birmingham or divert to Wednesbury and get the first tram.

I used to work on the Metro and I know how hard my ex colleagues work keeping the trams moving in wintry weather!

That lot to the north west is edging closer. Reflected in the MO automated forecast for this evening.

Most models  are out regrading timing    Latest Arome  doesnt have that front  getting anywhere near thye borders till  6pm   it then starts to fizzle out.  looks stronger on the radar

If the hirlam is correct    ( it as this  front  maybe an hour out   it should   get past shrewsbury then start turning south     then the trough above  comes over us

The radar is showing exactly what the 18z gfs was showing last night!!!fragmented front at first and then as it gets into the north of england yorkshire leeds sort of it gains intensity and then heads south towards us!!

I’ve just arrived back from work to find Upper Gornal still shrouded in thick frost and fog, just as I left it at 4 this morning!

Everywhere else I’ve been today while working my trains is now in brilliant winter’s sunshine.

Parked up near the main road, now to see if bleary eyed me remembered where I parked in the morning! Hopefully, there’ll be snow to remind me!

Honestly, this is all very touch and go.

We need to wait until dark/rush hour is with us to have any chance of making the best of this.

I know Stoke is high and areas around Dudley etc are at 200M - but down at lowly 70M ASL, living in a dip, surrounded by Cannock chase and surrounded by every small town and village always doing better in any snowfall events - we need perfect parameters.
