From Ian Fergusson

W COUNTRY SUN: Increasingly cold air spreading west today & wind chill becoming ever more pronounced. Our region escaping snow problems; however into Monday don't be surprised to see some passing flurries/showers, as these extend west in places. AROME 06z model gives a flavour:

That could well be interesting almost anywhere - streamers going right across the country. In the right band, if it’s persistent and moderate could easily give a covering if the ground’s cold enough. Just a couple weekends ago 3 inches fell here from what was tbh moderate snow at best, and for less than 2 hours. Of course wind may scupper things a bit - could be bare grass, but 6 inch drifts along fences and walls! See what occurs, radar and windows from tonight...

Why does the shower pattern change so much from Monday into Tuesday? The former has a much fairer spread of showers.

Wind from more of an easterly direction rather than NE.

That explains the direction of travel, but it doesn't explain why several streams of showers quite close together change into only three bands across the entire country.

Latest Arome model gives parts of Glos a dusting by tomorrow evening;

Nothing significant, as per expectations, but a little picturesque dusting if you're lucky maybe.

South west really scraping barrel though at least anything that did fall might hang around for a few days for lucky few.

It’s so sad  we have hope Friday!

Unfortunately it does see that the Far South west will miss out due to milder air inbound though parts Futher east will fair better

Yup.  Just got to hope something more significant comes off later in the week, although my confidence in this is starting to drop away now too.

On the plus side, many of us should at least see some falling snow over the next 48 hours or so.  Much better than the usual rain, wind and 10c temps.

It’s stalling it won’t even make the reach across the country. I live in Dorset so I think there’s a high chance. Sorry for you Cornwall folks! Your time will come

There could still be a 100+ mile adjustment either way at this stage. Still a little way off yet

Beautiful day here on the moor nippy in the wind but warm in the sun

Ventured into the South East regional thread and was surprised to see so much disappointment. Seems like Ipswich and surrounding areas have done well, but everywhere else not so much.

Yes, it would be frustrating living in Norwich (where I did some of my studies earlier) as the band of heavy snow has stalled just to the south of Norwich for the past 6 hours or so, leaving Norwich with just light flurries.  The north-east also isn't getting much, plenty of flurries of light snow and graupel but not generally heavy enough to settle.  I expect the north-east and Lincolnshire to get rather more on Monday and Tuesday as convection kicks off more over the North Sea, but there is certainly a chance of the Norwich area largely missing out, not unlike what happened there on 30 November to 2 December 2010.

At this rate it looks like the most likely reason for disappointments in this region on Thursday/Friday is the frontal systems fizzling before they get here, rather than a quick arrival of mild air from the SW, except perhaps in west Cornwall.

Seemingly downgrade after downgrade, and tonnes of HYPE, gets us to a new week, which having seen the BBC(sorry but I pay a licence so I may as well see what it kicks out) outlook,  the warmth returns by next weekend...

Has to be said it's quite pleasant out there in the sun, trying to sort the garden out, only when the sun goes in does it feel cool

Currently 4.6°C ..

Well yes, if an Amber warning has been issued for your area expectations are going to be high.

See it’s been extended to lunchtime tomorrow so current thinking must be for the snow to continue for a good while yet so they mustn’t give up hope yet.

Some accumulations within a few miles to the east, north, south and west of here. Like every other recent Easterly.
