Given the lack of Northerly blocking its good to see some snow around, all the way from Canada!

That's two decent snowfalls this Winter so far, which is already one better than last year.

First decent snowfall for me this Winter Mountain, hopefully not the last!

Had a light covering of snow here also last night.....has been quite a wintry week which did not look likely during new year period when temps were up to 14 degrees......

We had snow falling for about three hours Monday night from 10.30pm despite temp being 9 degrees at 6pm......likewise yesterday morning temp was 8 degrees and we had snow showers last night.... a few lovely frosty nights in between with blue clear skies by day.....not a bad week considering

Great photos lads! Thank you. Had a good snow shower this morning but nothing stuck sadly. Still, nice watching falling snow!

Turning sleety here now, the temp just dipping below 4C.  Feeling well below freezing in the wind

Funny that, feels quite mild even in the strong breeze up here. Was just up on the roof taking down the lights after Christmas and I was just in a tee shirt* and didn’t notice cold at all.

*Obviously had pants on too!

Rochey, you should know not trust any GFS by now. It's garbage.

The outlook remains pretty bleak with no Northerly blocking on offer.

In fairness, I didn't trust it alone, but the Gem was showing something similar at the time, and you could see hw the ECM could revert to it at the time too... But yes, you are right! It's garbage!

This high pressure with mild upper air has now drawn in a lot of cloud here in the southeast....

Was  -1c yesterday morning and frosty but once sun got going the temp quickly shot up to 10 degrees

Was  -1c again last night when going to bed at 11.30pm and it was white and frosty again. Woke up this morning and its 5c and cloudy with frost long cleared....no sign of any fog that was forecast, just cloudy skies

Once Cloud gets trapped under these areas of high pressure in winter it is hard to shift so I expect rest of the week to be murky and  cloudy... yuk.  At least it will be mainly dry but no sign of proper winter cold and snow any time soon.....

PS...I was driving yesterday morning to North Tipperary with work and it was amazing how the temperatures fluctuated between the valleys and hiller areas....one minute I would be driving through a frosty landscape in temp of 0 c and  few minutes later it would be 6c or 7c in a hiller area and frost free..... with temp fluctuating like this throughout my journey in clear blue skies.....

Coldest morning of the year so far, -3.8C.

Hit the low just after 8am and is already up to 3C, so a 7C climb in 2 hours. Impressive!

Interestingly the Met Eireann Monthly Forecast is looking better going into February. Certainly a lot better than this time last week.

Ties in with the latest EC46 released on Thursday ...... hopefully we see at least one spell of cold wintry weather before Spring arrives.

A North Easterly wind flow backing Northerly indicates a retrogressing high.

Interesting.

Yep. New 46 out tomorrow and I always read the met eireann commentary, looking forward to it considering this unusual month so far. Let’s see what’s in store in the medium term
