And if you’d believe the netweather radar by this stage I’d have feet of snow. Just not cold enough to get going over the sea, yes there’s convection, but high pressure and not enough convection. There’s an 18 degree difference between sea surface and 850 temp, yet precipitation suppressed and just drizzle grauple. Thursdays front won’t make it up here either. Still it’s been a learning experience I’ll give it that.

Just saw weather on RTE - breakdown of sorts, but very slow. Rain / sleet / snow mix Thurs / Fri. They didn't commit to further outlook beyond the weekend, but Sunday (4C) projected to be colder than Saturday (5C). I think general narrative has been established but details subject to change

BBC NI weather going for 10c by Monday

Just goes to show that anything can happen. Was this even forecast. Would be nice to see it intensify a little and give us a dusting.

I think we are too close for changes to be achieved for Thurs / Friday at this stage with a slow warm up occurring. I also believe we will get to the much milder temps as per BBC forecast but perhaps the arrival delayed to Tuesday / Wed.

Left Derry just after 7 there and heading home to Dungiven. A dusting in Drumahoe and snowing away on the road home.

It's all over guys.

Any snow, will be brief and quickly melt over the weekend.

This Winter has produced so many opportunities but delivered very little.

Let me just finish enjoying this heavy shower.

I agree it’s over, knew after this mornings model runs.

Unusual the way that shower developed and then intensified over N central ulster. Good to see it.

Showers are just forming out of nowhere on the East Coast then intensifying as they move inland then dying out when they get to Derry. It has been snowing lightly the past while. Another batch forming to the East now.

Yes just not enough instability despite decent upper air temps unfortunately....  lower thicknesses and instability in eastern Scotland and eastern England thus the heavier streamers there......last Friday when ME were warning of significant accumulations this week, the charts had that unstable air pushed right over us, but from Saturday it became apparent in the models that wasn't going to happen....disappointing.....Thursday's snow seems to be getting downgraded now too .....weaker than envisaged and prob won't reach some areas, then turn to rain Thursday night or Friday morning where it has snowed ......cursed we are ha

Heaviest shower of the lot just came on now....

Should be a covering in morning at this rate. Some photos in the morning maybe if it’s worth it. Feels like the last hurrah of this winter the way the models have gone today.....

We might just get enough of a covering to enjoy the next few days of freezing temps to get out and about locally to enjoy nature at its best @ronan @na52

We know they're will be snow but there's likely rain and much milder air behind so we won't be able to enjoy it.

Who knows, maybe the weather goes will contrive to keep the cold in place for Sunday too.

When you talk about unstable air, is there a way of directly measuring that, or, is it an indirect measure like humidity, pressure level / gradient? TIA

It's diagnosed by little squiggles in the line on the long wave patterns or shortwaves popping into the long wave pattern.

Thanks for that - every day is a learning day. Any chance of snow cover for you tonight?

Not really. It’s snowed grauple every day since Sunday, but so light it’s negligible, same for tonight.
