Yes, when a flow of air is forced up over high ground (‘orographic lift’), it cools and moisture condenses into precipitation (in winter, sometimes,  snow) which falls on the high ground, and then the air warms and dries on its descent towards lower ground, making it less likely to rain/snow on the sheltered side. It’s the same reason direct northerlies rarely bring much snow to the central belt (without other factors coming into play), but precipitation can pep up again over the Southern Uplands/Pennines.

No snow of note from any direction here recently, but a lovely frosty morning.

Nice to see snow around Ayrshire. The meto just issued a yellow snow and ice warning for the west, probably partly because the showers heading towards land now look heavier and more organised.

Yes just checked the radar, looks as though those showers are heading straight for Ayrshire. Good luck Ayrshire folk

It snowed at some point last night and it's left a covering, just, everywhere. At 08:30 it was -3 degrees and there seemed to be a thin veil of mist surrounding us, but that may just have been me. Sun's out now and everything looks crisp.

Temperature -0.3deg.C up from -4.9deg.C at 05:13, humidity is 96%, no wind, pressure is 995.5hPa rising slowly, there's been enough snow to cover everything but not enough to measure, cloud cover is 2/8 and the dew point is -1deg.C.

The Met Office is forecasting snow between 6pm tonight and 6am tomorrow. The BBC is forecasting no snow whatsoever. Diablo, he say snow. Place your bets ladies and gentlemen...

-3.6c was the lowest overnight for here.   I think that may be the lowest for this winter here so far.

Currently -1.7c/,2.4c/991.9/SW.   As others have said, a beautiful morning.

I thought last night that there were some more organised showers heading this way and I was surprised that we’ve had no precipitation of any type. This morning, anything out west fizzles out before it gets here and you can still that now. The showers to the west fizzle out as they move in.
 

Cold today, frost not lifted at all although sky is now clear and the sun is out. 
 

Edit: there might be no snow here but just seen a photo from Facebook and there is snow in Kilmarnock. Just a dusting but it appears the Kilmarnock snow shield has been breached none the less!

Yeah looks like they are dying off as they move closer.

Yeah, a few models hinted yesterday the showers would move in from more of a westerly direction through the day so we need that to happen. Haven't checked the models this morning though!

Agree with this. Going by this tweet may be the case later tonight - can just make out snow showers heading more inland on this graph

That animation shows some even making it well inland and towards West Lothian.

No Snow here in Greenlaw overnight. Instead it dropped to -6.6C

It's currently just made it above 0 (0.3C).

Snow... across the South of England? Snow in London? Jesus! The entire Country grinds to a halt (by law, I'm sure) if London gets snow...

Beautiful day out there. Cold even here in the sub-tropical East Neuk. Overnight low was -2.2c and we’ve only climbed to 0.6c so far this afternoon. Some great colours in my local walk. Snowy backdrop with the Lomonds and a covering on Largo Law, as well as over the Forth in East Lothian. Quite a contrast to the green of the coastal strip!

Thirtieth air frost down to -3.9°C and a maximum earlier like elsewhere at 0.3°C so not quite an ice day. Back negative now as the sun has gone down behind the hill. Bootiful out there.

Missed the large snowfall that the East experienced a couple days ago.

However there was a couple centimetres overnight where I work (Wigtownshire) and just had a wee snow shower at home which has almost turned the grass white.

Currently 1c, more showers forecast. -8c forecast further west and i’m nightshift so will see how low we go.

Been a very solid winter, slightly marginal at times (certainly down here) but never had to drive far to see some snow. If all winters were like this i’d bite your hand off

If we get a cold spell in February then winter 20/21 will be scored highly especially for the longevity rather than extreme depth of the cold.

Smashing day here, plenty of snow overnight in the Hebrides especially over Lewis.

temp currently at 1c 

dew point of 0.2c with negligible wind which is a bizarre oddity for us
