[Northernlights]

Another very   wet  early morning although the sun is out now at 2c. Frost tried to come down this morning as cloud broke and still hangs on in shaded areas. Cloud has started to come in from a more easterly direction  so blue sky is becoming more frequent.

The rain has turned more sleety in the current shower maybe if the dewpoint drops a bit later on you never know

Still very cold here, the local reservoir has frozen over. Will take the kids a walk soon so they can have some fun smashing up some ice. 
 

The latest GFS is still looking good for more widespread snow events as we head towards the end of next week and into the weekend. Hopefully this time next week we all have a good few inches

Well on looking out of the bedroom window this morning my thoughts were "oh well, nothing overnight" as it didn't look any different, just more frozen. On going outside though to take the dog a walk it was obvious we'd had sleet or wet snow, as yet again the driveway and car were covered in a sheet of ice. 

On getting half way up the hill, just 5mins drive and 100m higher, it was quite different. I suspect a lot of the sleety stuff we had yesterday and overnight was firmly snow up there. Had quite a wonderful walk in the sunshine, and the dog had a riot. 

    

Sorry @Mair Snaw, if it wasn't for Covid you could have visited for a 'fix'. Or given that everyone else seems to be doing it, just jump in the car, you will still be in Aberdeenshire and there must be plenty of snowy higher areas within an hours drive.

Bleh. A cold rain with some sleet pellets mixed in this morning. The orientation of the “streamers” off the North Sea are not favorable at all. Straight north to south motion is flooding is with marine layer air!

I’ve actually lost a decent amount of snow cover on the pavement here in south Edinburgh, which is a bit depressing.

Despite a forecast for overnight lows around -5°C, we managed a twenty first air frost at -1.4°C. But since dawn the temp has been riding at +0.5 to +0.9°C. Shocker. Getting the last splurge of showers from the ENE which have been snow, but the last one looked sleetier and, thank god at least the sheet black ice is dissolving. Snow not settling on the few clear surfaces so the wet boobiloo must be positive. Disappointing for 35-50 miles inland and up a bit!

BBC Weather App has now changed to show us getting a sleet at lunchtime and then faff all for a fortnight. Diablo he do a victory lap as I type....

It better not be another wintry mix! Would be nice to have an all snow (fairly widespread) Scotland event.

Back to the here and now and looking further West - risk of wintry/snow showers filtering through to the Glasgow, North and South Lanarkshire areas over the next forty eight hours. 
Wouldn’t be surprised if some of us get a wee surprise dusting at some point.

I am enjoying the endless days of sunshine, few ice days and temperatures well below freezing overnight but it is getting a wee bit boring now - couple/few centimetres for low ground here would be lovely! 
 

Also noticed Glasgow Airport got down to -8c this morning. Not bad at all!

Looks pretty marginal for lower ground based on those charts

ECMWF EPS running now, albeit the 6z version. Mean is still showing a strong signal for snow across much of Scotland by Thursday evening.

BBC weather I just saw agreed with that, rain in most of the U.K. away from higher ground, not surprising given the 850s. All eyes to Thursday then ...

Managed a good hours sledging with the kids. Was still decent snow up over 250m+ at the transmitter tower on Warklaw Hill but a heck of a slog getting there!

Still got snow on the ground here for the 6th consecutive day despite being one of the lower parts of North Lanarkshire. It goes to show how much difference it makes getting snow now compared to mid/late Feb when it would be gone in 2 or 3 days with conditions as they are now.

You can walk from Linn Park to Stamperland. Houses near the river mean you have to walk through a bit of suburbia. You can continue a bit more of the river walk as there is a path at the back of the Overlee playing fields which takes you under the railway line and you come out near Sheddens roundabout.

Just had a heavy rain shower, current temperature showing +2.4deg/C, ground temperature showing +1.2deg/C.

I pointed my infra-red thermometer at the darkest looking cloud overhead +0.8deg/C...no snow is going to fall if the cloud layer is that warm cold rain yes but nae snaw.

 

Something else that's nipping ma heed...radar images, our good old Metoffice has what looks like 8bit images from a Sinclair Spectrum (I wonder if thats what they use for model calculations too) with no snow fall shown either, Netweather and Accuweather have very nice radar images with a good selection of options to choose from...why are we being short changed from our own weather service.

Prediction for the next few hours for Glasgow seems to be 1c and rain. Sort of sums up this chilly spell.
