This is the Inverness to Ullapool road tonight. No need to shut the snow gates at Aultguish - John has closed the road all by himself with the lorry ❄

 

apparently there are a few people , cars and a bus stuck ,snow in drifts 8 feet in places , i am near Dingwall ,but at about 500 feet pretty sure it's snowing ,but I'm not going  to check to be honest till the morning

Blatant cherry picking but Like the Icon snow depth this morning !

3.6c/3.3c/and a further 7mm of rain since midnight, added to the 47.2mm total for yesterday = a grand total of 54.2mm and rising.   To add insult to injury, that orange 'blob' on the radar over Fife, appears to have stalled because it has been sitting in the exact same position for ages when running the animation.

Dreading inspecting the water level in the garden once it's light enough!

So... I wonder what delights are in store for us today?

Do I start clearing the drive of wet and heavy snow. Or do I just leave it and hope the rain/sleet does the job instead.

Really serious flood event unfolding here. 50mm+ last 48hrs. 70mm+ this month. But ground is extremely saturated already. Worse flooding in years from things i have saw

Mmmmmm 

It depends on how confident you are that it will all melt before it potentially refreezes and becomes bomb proof. Personally I nearly always tend towards clearing. 

Still sleet/wet snow falling here and plenty still lying, although heavy and wet looking after the temp got up to around 1C between 3am and 6am. That's dropped half a degree or so since, and if MetO forecast is correct we should be back to around zero by 9am.

If I change my tone to one of ‘disappointing’ do you think the weather will take heed?

after being so excited that the rain had changed to snow yesterday evening, by the time I went to bed it was back to rain again and it looks like that’s continued all night along with the wind.

Currently 3.4c/1.8c/16.76mm rain on top of yesterday’s total of 33.53mm. Overnight, themperature started at 2.7c, climbed to 3.9c before starting to drop back to where it’s at now.

Envious of all the snow photos from close by, I could almost reach out and touch the damn stuff

South of the forth, Edinburgh and Lothians running west looking like very little accumulation
Borders east and south mega amounts again.

Looks awfy like the East Lothian snaw shield might be trying to work again in an Easterly as well , now that just needs to sort itself oot, because I’ve got the snow shovel ready ! @BlitzenNae snow blower but we cannie keep up wi the Fifers

High of 3.9C overnight but down to 2.7C and steadily falling. 40mm since the snow turned wet yesterday morning but add that to whatever fell Monday to Wednesday as snow and hasn't registered. I haven't been off the hill for days but I dread to think what the local flooding is like.

Big loss of snow from adjacent fields but miraculously we still have seemingly unblemished snow carpet in the garden!

That wee -3C should be enough for sleet in coastal East Fife.

 

Hey @CatchMyDrift I used to like you as well.  Actually the forecast specifically mentions sleet on the coast for tomorrow. But if I don’t see snow once the -10 850s are in I’m going to order a giant pram.  Three years between snowfalls is long enough!

Miserable again this morning, wet and windy. Temperature climbed to 5.4c overnight, now 4.7c.

The problem for south of the forth is the precipitation is running in a SE to NW direction and the the majority of the charts show this apart from the ICON which has a good amount of snow for Edinburgh and West Lothian,,,,,I hope I am wrong with my thoughts

Correct me if I’m wrong but did we not do a wee league table of snow depths way back in 2010? What I can’t remember was, was it predicted snow depths or actual snow depths ??

I’ve been keeping an eye on the temperature difference between our sites during this easterly. More often that not it’s pretty bang on 2c. Will be interesting to see how things stand by Sunday.

I wonder if we’ll sneak an ice day at Leuchars. They’re unusual anyway but in a strong easterly you need a real depth of cold. There was one ice day during BFTE (Feb 28th) and 3 in January 1987. I’m thinking probably not and daytime temperatures will be just above freezing with -10/-11 850s.

Our temperatures are pretty stable up here but ice days are almost as rare as they are on the coast! Often spend a whole day sat at 0.1C.

Latest ECM is encouraging enough for the Lothians no? Admittedly takes until Monday to really get going on these charts but plenty of ppn packing in. These things are never modelled well. I'll be trying (and probably failing) to stay away from charts and just see what happens
